ummm.........its protecterate![]()
And if you want to be their protecterate you have to wait till they ask you to.
Blut und Boden
You don't want to. The most certain way to be betrayed is to become a protectorate, that's for sure. I don't know exactly what prerequisites must be met to make you a protectorate though.
From the pride and arrogance of the Romans nothing is sacred. But the vindictive gods are now at hand. On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory (Boudiccas Speech, Tacitus, Annals, XIV, 35)

Hi!
I remember there being a guide on how to make another faction your protectorate, I think it was at the .org forum, but I can't find it at the moment. however I did find this:
From http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=38382
Become Protectorate (demand only)
Stances: neutral or enemy
Description:
When you demand that a faction become your protectorate, you are offering several things at once:
* All hostilities cease
* You have full Military Access to their lands
* Alliance and Trade Rights are guaranteed
* The length of the Protectorate status is unspecified
You get no cash by default from gaining a faction as a Protectorate, nor can you use or disband their troops.
Clarification:
No more information needed.
Tips:
Players report that having a Protectorate seems to do no good for the conquering faction, while actually Becoming a protectorate is great... you can worry less about invasion, you pay no taxes to your conquerors, and you can use the time to recoup losses and build your economy. Protectorate status breaks down if you do anything to harm your status as Allies of the other faction.
There is not enough player experience with this option to know much more. It would be helpful to know, for example, if a faction who are in Protectorate status can be bled for cash more easily (by repeated demands for Make Single Payment, or Regular Tribute).
I am playing one of the Rome factions and the senate told me to offer to become Dacia's (i think that is how you spell it) protectorate.
Wait...they asked you to become their protectorate?Or vice versa? That's how I interpreted your post. Anyway, the Senate would only ask you to do something that benefited Romans, so they probably want you to become the Protector of Dacia. Is there a reward or a punishment that comes with the request?
Yeah it's really nice when they ally with you and then you kill them.
Mostly, if a protectarate betrays me (which happens most of the time) I will spend all of my resources to demolish them.
No-one messes with the great empire of Macedonia!
best way, is to offer them 1mill. and they will throw down their swords.
Who wants to give away 1mill though??? Bettern to spend half that and destroy reaping the benefits of their land
Do you want to be the protector, or the protecterate? You don't want to be a protecterate, so I assume you want to be the protector. See Werner's post for more on that.Originally Posted by bhs_runner

The only way its ever worked for me is when I offered Dacia like 50,000 denarii just to see what it was like. I became their Protectorate and nothing cool happened so I ended up destroying them.
when the senate asks me to obtain surender i ask and they never say yes
Well, you have to "convince" another faction to become your protectorate. How does one do this? You have to defeat that faction in battle(s), surround them, and mostly hope that the AI knows when it is best to give up, which they usually do not and instead respond with a [foolish] fight to the death.
Oh, and a diplomat with lots of diplomatic talent is always useful.![]()
I made Parthia my Protectorate once with the Seleucids after destroying their empire at the begining of the game, yet when I lost a setlement in Arabia to a pesant revolt, it turned over the Parthia. I retook it, and then Parthia got angry and started to attack me. After defending off their attack, I quickly got them into the same position and rather than risking it, obliterated them.
If you want to become a protectorate of an other faction you have to look weaker then they are. That usually means having fewer provinces then that faction.
I was playing the Julii on very hard/very hard mode and Gaul demanded that I became their potectorate. I said no. I wont be a potectorate of some barbarians!
The point is that if you play on higher difficulty there is bigger chance that you are asked to become a potectorate.
