    Default Ping problem

In the past month I've been having consistent lag whenever I play online games, especially on Steam. All of my settings are ok, my internet is going fine, my ping sucks though. On average it's 95-100ms when last year on the same period it was around 40-50ms, and that even brings me to 18-20 fps regularly on DoDS which is complete crap.

I've downloaded Black Ops this weekend to enjoy it since MW2 always went without a hitch, my ping is at least 150ms on European servers, 400ms on US servers.

I don't know if it's a computer problem for the lag that I get - is it from the ping or is it because of the computer? When I play DoDS for example alone, my fps is a very steady 55-60fps and on some maps even 70-80 fps.

So it is the ping that causes the lag or my computer? Even changing the settings brings me lag.

If there's a better way to decrease your ping than getting a better ISP, fibre optic broadband & living closer
to the servers then I'd very much like to know

My ping is normally 160-240, it normally seems to be good enough to play most games but can cause problems
    in others.

Yeah, I talked to the service provider, I purchased a faster Internet plan and I told them to send their technicians this way so they can make sure everything's synchronized.

It causes problems in Black Ops. Huge lag even with 120 ping.

Huge lag would probably not be from your ping or at least represented, I'd consider 340ping "huge", probably
more something to do with the server you use, if the lag is when you see other people lagging about then it's
more likely to be their fault, I assume your PC plays the game well?

It could be the distance between you & the server you're connecting to as well, that's less likely though but it's
    happened to me before.

Do a traceroute to find out where the lag occurs.
"The cheapest form of pride however is national pride. For it reveals in the one thus afflicted the lack of individual qualities of which he could be proud, while he would not otherwise reach for what he shares with so many millions. He who possesses significant personal merits will rather recognise the defects of his own nation, as he has them constantly before his eyes, most clearly. But that poor blighter who has nothing in the world of which he can be proud, latches onto the last means of being proud, the nation to which he belongs to. Thus he recovers and is now in gratitude ready to defend with hands and feet all errors and follies which are its own."-- Arthur Schopenhauer

I've put Black Ops on minimum settings and it still gets me huge lag. Day of Defeat I always run on max because it can run it and I get 50-60fps on average, but lately it's been down to 20fps and small patches when it runs normal. My computer can definitely run DoDS and Black Ops at least on miminum without any problem (the menu runs very smooth on Black Ops), so it's def a ping problem.

How do I do a traceroute?
