Modding town wealth growth?
Hi everyone,
At this point in its development, Shogun 2 is a great game that I find very enjoyable but for one major flaw.
The AI has NO IDEA how to maintain, much less, develop its own town wealth. Especially late game, I find that most provinces I capture have only the bare minimum wealth provided by buildings and ZERO town wealth added.
How is the AI supposed to provide effective resistance with minimal wealth to tax? Compared to my own (already far wealthier) provinces growing 40 to 50 a turn and increasing my tax income by 300+ each turn.
Maybe I should have posted the above in a gameplay discussion thread
But I do have a modding question.
The AI destroying their wealth is a result of low food and high tax. Is there a way to mod the tax rates effect on growth in a province?
There is a town wealth growth factors file and various tax files in the db folder but pack file manager 1.6.5 BETA says it doesnt support those files yet so I havent been able to look at them.
Food Changes:
I wasnt about to try modifying the CAI and I dont think that markets should be so counterproductive to development so I adjusted food building characteristics so the AI could survive/thrive on a castle, merchant guild economy while at the same time reducing my own growth (fort, market, farm) to a more reasonable level.
Farms:+1,+2,+2,+3
Castles:-1,-1,-2,-2,-3
Markets: 0, but individual town growth: +2,+5,+10,+20

Actually town growth based on tax rate is in the taxes effect. Can't remember the exact db file name. The AI's minimum accepted towngrowth for their towns can be edited in the personality junction table.
However, the AI can and will tax highly especially when at war with some other faction. When its borders are secure or beside an ally, it will reduce its taxes.
I agree with your point. This is where the table handicaps come in. Giving the AI bonuses helps it a bit, but it is still more inclined to make large armies, especially when it wants to conquer more than one region.

Thanks for the feedback!
Among other tax files there is a taxes effects junction table in the db folder. However the pack file manager doesnt support any of those files.
Is there another way to access those files?

Re: Modding town wealth growth?
I did a lot of trial and error before at last fixing the economy. Here is some of what I did: Removed the growth bonus from food, so it is just wasted if in surplus - that entry is in campaign variables iirc. I also added some more passive growth from fairly low-tier arts, since these are added after the tax penalty, it benefits the AI a lot since they spend a lot of time in "crisis management" mode. Furhtermore I added bonuses to growth from each rank of fortresses, since the AI will always build those. I also increased the values in how eager the AI is to upgrade castels and build economy buildings.
Effects of +2, +3 and +4 are actually very powerful if you run a 12 turns/year mod - you might want to tone down the +10 and +20 growth bonuses.
