    Default Cheat help?

Yes im a cheater XD, anyways I was trying to spawn Gaelic Archers in the Britainnia Campaign and it wasn't working but worked for other units. I typed create_unit Lifford "Gaelic Archers" 5 9 3 3, this should've created 5 Gaelic Archers in Lifford but it said "error: unit type not recognized" i don't know what i'm supposed to type. Is there a different name for them you have to type? Thanks for the help in advance.

You are putting in the wrong name. You need to put in the unit's index name or whatever it's called. Go to export_descr_units and go to the gaelic archers entry. You need to unpack the pack files first, google m2tw unpacker. Maybe all you need to do in the console is put an underline in i.e. gaelic_archers.

you can't upgrade armour and weapon so far, the attack only has 1 level upgrade and the armour has 1,2,3 (depends on the units)

and also, don't cheat, if you can't handle the AI on very hard, play on M/M; I asked this so many times xD why do you cheat ? cheating blows

Honestly, when I first found out about how to cheat it was AWESOME, I was spamming the best knights in the game by turn 2 from top of the line citidels but now I think of it as a curse and every time I want to I try not to because it ruins the whole game. What's the point of achieving world domination if there's no prestige in it? It doesn't really feel like I've accomplished anything if just anybody could've done it.

Good point, but you know you can disable cheats before starting a campaign .

You're with the console are you, try this then.
    create_unit Lifford "Saighdeoir" 5 9 3 3

I "cheat" such as changing units movement factors and removing secondary weapons from pikemen to make the game enjoyable for me (and more realistic IMHO). For example, I always remove pagan magicians from my generals. I also remove the she-man thing. Both of these are just stupid to have in a game of medieval warfare. Might be fine now in Europe but not back then. This game is not chess. Think of it as a toy. If you have 200k fl. and want to build roads and a church at the same time, why not be able to rush the job? I have given the pope cities and he puts in no garrisons (I guess he is short of cash) and so I have "cheated" by putting some of his men in the city. Now if I do not do so then he'll lose the city and I could retake it (over and over again) and then would that not be cheating or exploiting? Messing with the game is only a cheat if you are in competition with someone else. I do not consider it a cheat to put back into the game the capability of the Scots to produce highland nobles which the modder had removed.

When I cheat, it is typically just to keep the pace of the game moving, such as resetting armies' movement points when they have artillery because they move just too slowly to get their target. Or if my army attacks an army and it withdraws, and my army is just one tile short of attacking it, then I will cheat. Or if there are brigands at my border and my local garrison needs two turns to get to it, or if the garrison stops right outside the city walls because it runs out of movement points. But otherwise I have no problem with the pace of construction or recruitment. If you consider construction to represent not the construction of a physical building but the establishment of region-wide infrastructure, then the long periods of construction time makes sense. A physical tannery will take just a few months to build (if that), but giving the entire area the science and the materials required to put tanneries in each village, farm and fort will take a long time. I cannot understand why some of the buildings have such short periods of construction time like roads and farm improvements. But then again cathedrals were already present during the beginning of the vanilla campaign and the fact that it takes forever to get to them irritates me (so I re-arranged the building trees a bit so there's the abbey-university, shrine-pilgrimage cathedral, and church-huge cathedral religious building trees and catholic factions can choose to build one of those in each settlement like temples in RTW).

When you play without mods, the klutzy AI and pathfinding give you ample reason to cheat to compensate. The other day, I had two units of spear/pike standing around in front of an open enemy gate letting themselves be shot instead of marching all of 20 meters and capture the gate... and to add insult (and injury) to injury, while they were standing there, the catapult behind them instead of flinging its load over the walls send it right into their rear... and of course by the time they pathfinding finally realized how to get to the destination, the defender had already secured the open gate with some infantry of his own...so wasting two units to klutziness of the programming in my eyes is ample reason to throw them out and recreate them. You could have avoided those casualties easily by auto-resolution of the battle , but that's hardly the point of the game, is it? And I'm not even starting to talk about casualities caused by two allied armies on AI control simply admiring the view of the city they are supposed to attack which you subsequently have to storm all alone, or AI allies shooting the walls to bits but not bothering to actually march through the breaches until you're already holding the plaza...etc. Yes, I'm sure there are mods to fix this, but in the end, a mod is just as much an outside-the-main-game-engine modification of the game as creating a unit from the shell is. The issue is not that you manipulate the game, the question is the reason you're doing it for and the extent to which you do it.

I find the game easy without cheats, though I do adjust the generals when the traits are retarded. I had a General, who's dread level was nearly maxed. Brutal warrior, pillager and exterminator of cities, one of the most feared men in the known world at the time. Also a cuckold to the point where supposedly men brag about doing his wife before peeing on his boots... The man exterminates cities, brutal warrior, scarred, etc, and you're going to p$$$ on his boots after porking his wife? Right.... You die.

That's the whole point of him being cuckolded, he just doesn't know, doesn't realize or doesn't care. After all, his wife is back home while he is off at war. His wife wouldn't go on the campaigns as it would be too dangerous, and the game gives the trait when he is outside of friendly lands, or he is a homosexual, or his wife is unchaste. And who would tell him, and risk receiving a thorough beating because the fearsome man would probably shoot the messenger?

The description of the trait says that the men who sleep with his wife laugh in his face about it and piss on his boots. They should be dead for peeing on the boots and laughing at him for anything.

I'm with Old Geezers comments up above. When a regular campaign is virtually done and dusted, I too see the game as a 'toy' and its time to whip the Holy Console out and have a laugh with my 'toy'

No finer sight than Europe clogged with elephants and the map over-run with maxed-out pilgrims, religious fanatics and flagellants!!

I'll be gutted if theres no console enhancements in Med 3

i used to be able to use this cheat (created alot of knight templar with it..) but now when ever i try to use it i always get the same error code:
err:could not create unit(s) because garrison already contains maximum amount of units.
even though the city could be empty or the army only have 1 unit in it.
    any ideas?
It happened around the same time i started a custom battle and since then reinstalled the game and deleted all saves. Im using steam.

The only cheat I ever use is add a few florins to have up to 200 so I can build watchtower and move on with that general's task. And that is very rare too, cause sometimes he stands in single spot waiting on money to build watchtower for quite some turns if building on credits. i hate Russia for it cause it's a grueling job to make it all be seen there.

And maybe sometimes auto win defender if I get ambushed by rebel armies. If not rebel i either beat em on the map or lose, which almost never happens cause its very rare.

You will never learn and enjoy the game if you cheat your wins. The point why it is so ...you get bored very fast and what should be a game to play a long time you end up changing it for some other.

Hope I make some sense, cause I play Medieval 2 for almost 7 years and think I just cant stop lol.

Maybe some future games of Total War series take it's place (so far none have) and I am giving all my hopes for Rome 2 to be as good as it should and bring some new change
