    Default Changing Unit Build Times

Hi, I was wondering how I can change the build time of units, I'm playing the SPQR mod and would like to have units take as long to build as they do in normal vanilla...

You'll want to edit the export_descr_unit.txt file.

You can find this by following the path activision/rome:totalwar/data the data folder will contain this file.

Within this file you'll find many unit attributes such as attack and defense characteristics etc... also you'll find the information that sets the parameters for unit build costs and upkeep costs etc... you can edit the time it takes to build a unit (# of turns) by finding the line "stat_cost."

This line contains a number of different attributes. They are, in order of appearence,
    -number of turns to build
    -cost of unit to construct
    -cost of upkeep
    -cost of upgrading weapons
    -cost of upgrading armour
    -cost for custom battles.

So, if you wanted to change the number of turns it took to recruit a unit of preatorian cavalry you'll want to edit the lines highlighted below.

    ORIGINAL

    type roman praetorian cavalry
    dictionary roman_praetorian_cavalry ; Praetorian Cavalry
    category cavalry

    voice_type Heavy_1

You'll notice all we've done here is change the 2 to a 1. In doing so we've decreased the amount of time to build this unit from two turns to one. Tough huh? At any rate you can make that number as large or small as you wish... When set to 0, multiple units can be recruited per turn and indeed this is a characteristic of many major modifications that have been done with the game.

This file can be a lot of fun to play around with and can let you create "super units"... have fun and I hope this answered your question.
