Default getting give_ancillary cheat to work

hey ya'll i know most of you frown on cheats and im gonna be strung up and tortured and all that jazz but i wanna get the give_ancillary cheat to work, so i can give my assassins pet_monkey and generals things like doctors and bodyguard - now i can already do this when the character i wanna get it for has one name, ie the cheat will read like this give_ancillary Milkytonnes doctor, exactly as typed and it works, but.....if the character has a name likes eptimos the great, i cant seem to get the bloomin cheat to work, ive tried all combination and ways of typing it, to no avail...i dont wanna go crazy and start giving all my generals and agents all the ancillaries under the sun, but i wanna give some to the select few- which i think the game should allow you to do anyway- i mean my main general in my main army needs a doctor or herbalist or chirugeon or something... any experts that know how to do this i would appreciate your help

p.s i did use the search forum facility, but hundreds of things come up and didnt find what i needed.
    thx in advance

you need to use their old name

so if it's Gaius Julius, then he gets the vicor trait, you need to still use "Gaius Julius"

nah this doesnt work mike, for example im on the greek campaign now, and i might have a general with the name phrates of sparta, right... if i type it as just phrates when trying the cheat, it doesnt work, it says cant find character - and twnoob the cheat does work as long as you type it in case sensitive for a general with 1 word name, another problem is tho that if you have 2 generals or agents with the same name, the ancillary goes to the 1st born of the 2... a little annoying!
im pretty sure there is a way of getting it to work with a general or agent with a 2 word of more name, but cant figure it out, i thought there would be some guys with the knowhow on here- i could always at the start of the campaign add the required ancillaries to my first generals/leader and then before he dies drag the ancillary over to the general who succeeds him using the little ancillary bug... but this is annoying, i just think its ridiculous tw doesnt allow you so many ancillary points to distribute to certain fam member or agents, so you can chose what to give him,i mean its silly having a governor nowhere near the fighting getting a chirugeon or doctor, and your main fighting general getting something he dont need like an influence or management ancillary... duh!

I think you have to type it like "phrates_of_sparta" inorder for it to work, just like the add_population, or process_cq cheat.
Anything longer than one word has to be grouped together with the _.

thx for the hint ajiminez  but already tried that along with about another 10 variations, ok these are the kinda things ive tried - Give_ancillary phrates_the_conqueror doctor & Give_ancillary phratestheconqueror doctor & Give_ancillary Phrates_the_Conqueror doctor & Give_ancillary phrates_The_conqueror doctor & Give_ancillary phrates the conqueror doctor & Give_ancillary Phrates the conqueror doctor & Give_ancillary Phrates the Conqueror doctor etc... as you can see if tried variations and still it hasnt worked, the name was just an example- its not like its the only name i cant get it to work with or anything...oh and yeah ive tried other ancillaries it still doesnt work, but i can get the cheats working for any agent or general with one name grrrrrrrr CA are a pain in the *ss

Also there are cheats that will not work for us the players. Alot of cheats are there for the developers to use in making the game.
Example: process_rq used to build everything in the unit build que. there was a cheat out there that made this one work(among others) before the 1.2 patch.

Hope you can make it work.

Like Mike said above, you have to use their original names. "the Conquerer" isn't the guy's original name. If you didn't make a note of it, I'm not sure how to find out what the original name was.

thx gardibolt, but ahaa... what if the guys original name is something like merkes of sparta- every damn greek general ive had from the start of the campaign has had more than 1 name from coming of age - but i know what you're saying... that if his original name is a one word name it works, otherwise you can forget it eh...and ive only had 1 damn chirugeon/doctor ancillary given to a general and hes miles away from the main armies(in a settlement with his feet up), as i have 2 main armies one kicking seleucid butt and the other just finished off all romans...

You can give anciliary to one name guy and swap it to chosen general/agent. If you dont have one name general bribe one.

would you know it tho, i had a general gain a chirugeon (which is the ancillary i wanted) and he goes and ends up dying in the very next fight- he was the first one dead out of all his bodyguard unit, i ask ya does that ever happen to the cpu generals... very bloody rare!!! haha i didnt reload the battle tho..... just let things play out...

    "phrates of_sparta"

    That's how. Thus:

    give_ancillary "Name OF_Name" "object/person"

Put quotes over the name, and use the underscore between the OF/DE/VON and the SECOND name. no underscore in the first space.

The game is designed to process two names. So if the person has three or more, you have to eliminate all spaces except the first one.
