If you had the money, time, and resources available to make a movie, documentary, animation, or TV series, what would the subject matter be?

    1. A rock opera about Napoleon Bonaparte. Yeah, a goddamn rock opera, you heard me. Damn awesome.
    2. Trilogy about the Aesir and Valhalla. From Odin and his brothers forming the world from Ymir's body to Ragnarok. Would be insane.
    3. Neo-noir film about a detective in the near future. Haven't worked out the plot details but it'd be awesome.
    4. A spy thriller called Olympus where a secret agency used for espionage and and their codenames and personalities are based off the Olympians of Greek myths. Haven't worked out the plot for this either.
    5. Focusing on a young musician during Swinging 60s London or America during the 60s (more doo-wop and girl groups) as he tries to form a band and get signed. Follows his relationships and hardships along the way.

A proper crusades film, not one that's meant as an allegory of modern politics or shoehorns the sides in good versus bad.

Teutoburg would make an absolutely excellent film, not like all the British isles/Celts vs Romans stuff that they always (understandably though) hark back to.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

A series or movie about the life of Stalin and his close associates. After reading Simon Sebag Montefiore's biography, I couldn't help but think of Stalin's life as some drama. There's a lot of juxtaposition in not only his own, but in the lives of the entire Soviet leadership. He was a massmurdering dictator who spent much of his later life in his dachas, growing mimosas with his KGB bodyguards as field hands. I just think it would be a very interesting movie, and something that needs to be made at some point.

Oh gosh, hard question. I'm a huge short story fan myself and I dunno why, but I'd LOVE to just bring some of my favorite ones to life. And I mean like totally true to the original story, no fluff, no cutting, no plot changes, the dialogue and the actions would be straight from the story.

"Just Lather, That's All" -THIS would prolly be my first choice, it would make a fricken great short film
    "A&P"
"Babylon Revisited" - would make a nice drama
"Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?"

*sigh* ...It'd be great, get some nice equipment, handpick some underground actors... no special effects, just give it a good indie feel.

Either some kind of LotR style fantasy epic, or something vaguely historical.

For historical, I'd probably do something something related to the Mughal conquest of India or maybe a modern take on the British occupation of Afghanistan.

I've also always fancied doing a Medieval European horror film, incorporating the black death, werewolf attacks, folkloric stuff.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

"Harald Haardrade" with a 500 million budget and on location filming, Weta workshop costumes and about 100 000 extras for realistic battles.

An epic movie about the warhammer universe, a trilogy, like LOTR. I just dont know if I would pick the classical fantasy or the 40k universe. I think it is about time a movie should be made about this fantastic universe.

    1. Remake of "Midway" with real aircraft, state of the art CGI, no sweety-slimy "luvstory". I truly believe that the pure story of the battle of Midway(told from both PoVs) has more suspense, more masculinity, strength, and power than if it were made up.

    2. A series on the Second Punic War. Trebia, Trasimene, Cannae, Hanibal ad portas, New Carthage and Scipio's campaign in Spain, Ilipa, and the final clash at Zama, with an epilogue about the fate of those who survived it all.

My first choice would be a historical fiction TV series about the Anglo-Saxon invasion of Britain, one that portrayed the Anglo-Saxons and Romano-British as human beings with their own motivations, interests and desires rather than Chaotic Evil proto-Vikings who just abandoned their homes and sailed all the way across the North Sea for no discernible reason and a bunch of helpless peasants who need Arthur and his anachronistic knights to save them.

My second would be a second season of Firefly, one that wraps up all the loose plot points without turning into Buffy In Space.

My third choice would be a proper movie adaptation of Dune, not that piece of David Lynch made in the eighties. Hopefully with the same quality of detail and casting the LOTR movies had.

    1. An Alternate Reality film if what would have happened if WWII was fought on and off into the 1960's.
    2. A film about a conservative journalist from a small town who is forced to team up with a Freelovin' hippie to report on a giant Hippie Festival on the west coast in 1970
    3. A Rock Opera about the life of Frank Zappa

Over all other movies that you could possibly make, you would make a near future detective film, but you haven't even seen the defining movie in that genre?!

    1. Magician by Raymond e Feist turned into a epic LOTR style film or a miniseries based on the series of books (like Game of Thrones) Pug will be kickass!

    2. Battle of Trafalgar - Epic 200million 3hr film, get the guys from master and commander to do it! (thou never commercially viable)

    3. Battle of Sekigahara - HBO Rome type series based on the events leading to the unification of japan. With Miyamoto Musashi as one of the perspective characters.

    1. Halo movie. yes. I will continuously jizz in my pants for 10 minutes should it ever be confirmed. If I made one myself it would be based on Halo: Reach and be in that gritty Saving Private Ryan style realism.

    2. Remake Waterloo but focus more on the soldiers perspective rather than the generals. It would be an all-star feature film. Gerard Butler and Robert Carlyle as highlanders. yes.

    3. A movie on Dunkirk. I loved the Dunkirk section in Atonement and I would love a film entirely dedicated to it. It would be in the poetic style of Thin Red Line with a good portion of action but not as much as say Saving Private Ryan.

The longer it takes for you to make a film the more of what you believe to be your sole ideas will be done in some way, shape, or form. Only way to protect yourself is to register your treatments with the WGA. Doesn't cost much and you can do it online.

When I was first interested in making movies back in the mid to late 80's I came up with an idea about a Gladiator that changes the course of politics in Rome. Another I had was about a bunch of people with super powers one of whom gained his powers by being around others and hunted by a secret organization.
