Default For You Networking Buffs Out There

Just posting this thread up for a mate, his problem is that no matter the game he seems to get few results in the server lists and from what little results he gets only a small fraction of them are actually joinable. Its obvious that he has connectability issues, I've got him to foward ports, join VPN's and nothing works so I'm curious if it is possible for him to replace the BT Home Hub 2 he is currently using for an improved connection? Would it work?

I've had this problem for years on every computer of mine, I've disabled all firewalls, used different routers and disabled their firewalls, I've set up the proper port forwarding for the games I play and nothing has ever worked. I do have a smaller local ISP and I suspect that they are what's causing me my problems connecting to online games. It may be the same for him if he has a small ISP.

the problem is BT. I've talked to numerous BT subscribers with similar problems.. their combination modem router is less than adequate and all of them have connectivity issues. and they throttle the bandwidth a lot. You pay for something and get half that if you are lucky.

So there is nothing he can do? Pretty sure his Dad signed a contract as well so I think he is stuck with it for a good while.

Isn't this the NAT restriction problem? Try turning your computer off, then your Home hub by the plug, wait
20secs, & then plug & turn everything back on - works for me, sometimes it doesn't even say it's a NAT problem

& I assume you added the games to application sharing list? (though indeed forwarding ports could do the job)
If so then that's all I got to offer sorry.

Pretty sure I've had him try the lot mate, it just seems to have a blatent issue with PC games but the funny thing is he plays Xbox Live quite often and gets no issues from it.
