    Default Pre-storm of Chaos event?

Playing as Tabalecland, turn 40! I get this event that armies of Chaos are about to knock on my gates of my capital city Talabheim. This is how it went:

    1. They show up far north at the sea (at Ostland, I believe).
    2. One turn later they show up below city of Wolfenburg (see screenshot).
    3. Tried to block em with an army west of Ertburg (bridge).
    4. A$$holes of Chaos are smart, and used bridge of Hergig and so surrounds Talabheim.
    5. Hochland (red colored cowards) just stacks armies around Hergig and does nothing.
    6. Chaos starts to attack my beautiful city of Talabheim.
    7. They lost the first battle because my phalanx of Halberdiers and Spearmen are way superior!
    8. I predict the rest of the Chaos armies will start the attack! 5 stacks left!

What is this?? A pre-battle party of Chaos before the real sh!t hits the fan??
I mean, I read that the real storm comes in around turn 50. It takes at least around 5 turns to get this gigantic army off my back (then it will be turn 45). If storm of chaos soon follows, I wont be making it I think....

    And......damn you, Hochland!! Coward!

i find chaos factions way too weak, the barbarians have the same attack as the average empire soldiers and of course these empire soldiers have way more armor than them. I only need 1 and a half stack to completely decimate all those stacks. the half stack will act as a reinforcement when i am done with the 3rd stack.

Well, this is my first encounter with Chaos! I am quite terrified since I know they only have heavy infantry and their whole strategy is based on that!

Maybe you can beat them yes, but an inexperienced CoW noob like me cant, lol. I am not gonna try mop these guys up since my main army which has cannons, wizards, etc. is on the other side of my kingdom. Which is a weakened army since I was fighting Orcs all of the time.

I totally didnt expect this. I was lucky to have some basic armies at Talabheim and surrounding cities.
Does Storm of Chaos event follows soon after this one?

you got 20 turns to prepare and to win against chaos takes some experience. what you will need are knights, greatswords, pikemen and swordsmen as melee, then you need cannons and handgunners(lots of them). with this army you MUST have the high ground, bombard them from far away and hold the line for the handgunners to decimate their lines then have your kngiths (2 units or more) keep charging from the back and withdrawn. this inflicts great charge damage and hardly any damage to your knights, repeat this process and you should not lose more than 15 or 20 percent of your full force.
oh and be sure all your units are fighting in tight formations, if there are any hell canons then the you must destroy them before they start firing. when those cannons are gone its pretty much a walk in the park.

Its great to see such wonderful allies helping out.

Although you can't really blame them. If I had seen a hoard of chaos coming at me, I wouldn't have just stood there. I would've been GONE!

Wow that almost looks like an exact replay of a Talabheim campaign i played the other day. Got the message they're coming for me so i try to head them off at the bridge to buy time to bring a third army west of Talabhiem. Hit next turn and they teleport past the army i had on the bridge Bastards!

Luckely i was able to repel the first attack which was just one army attacking Talabheim. I slaughtered them with minimal losses. Next turn i attacked the nearest south army ( the one just south of the woods in your screen shot ) That one was a tough battle and i lost about 50% of the original force.

I then sent a reserve force from the elven ruins along with my main army i had towards the west of Talabheim against the west most army on the road. I won that battle with minimal casualties.

Next turn the Nurgle army tucks tail and heads back the way they came. They went on to attack Wolfenburg and Castle Lenkster. I then sent my forces to pick them off one by one. I would have just let them take those since they didn't belong to me in the first place but why let them have a foothold when the real invasion begins.

actually thats another point, have any of you had a bridge battle yet? i cant count the times ive had all bridges covered thereby funneling the enemy where i want them and they just teleport past me,and bypass other forces where they should have been blocked and forced to fight!
i suppose its to do with the scripting,is it? cheers

Yes, it's done to prevent the scripted armies to just wandering around, and actually making them attacking their supposed targets. It's annoying because you can't block them unless you know exactly where they teleport and intercept them in that turn.
It's only after you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything.
