    Default Dire Need of Help!!!

So i got all my components and all for my new built from scratch computer. I acutally successfully plugged in all the power cables and what not correctly the first time.

    But my problem is WINDOWS!!!!

I cant for the life of me figure out how to install it. I got the CD and i configured my moboard BIOS to have the cdr-rom which is recognizes (as the 1st IDE Master) as the 1st boot, following 2nd boot Floppy Disk, and 3rd Hard Drive.
My Cd-rom is also connected by wire to my dvd drive, though i cant seem to see it listed on the cd rom drive in my BIOS, it only lists the CDR drive (problem?).

Im trying to install a fresh windows on my new HD.

Ive looked online for help, but all the sites' windows xp cds are being read. Is it a wrong connection?

    Help me please!!

Did you set the Cdrom as the First Boot device in your Bios? You can do this by going to:

    Advance BIOS features>First Boot Device> CD-ROM

    Save and exit.

Insert your Windows XP Installation cd, reset your computer and it should work.

I think you may need to set your cd/dvd drives up properly, I'd suggest removing the DVD drive installing windows then attaching the DVD drive afterwards and setting it up in windows.
And both drives should show up in BIOS, perhaps you've got a faulty cord or haven't set the drives up properly. (master/slave? I can't remember if it works that way with optical drives, sorry).

I actually have this problem, where a DVD Drive does not show whatsoever, and I returned it to the store, who tested it and said its faulty. Possibly the CD-Rom is faulty?

You said that the two drives are connected by a wire? That probably means they are connected on the same IDE cable which means that one of them has to be the master and the other the slave. On the back of the drive there is a jumper that you must set to change whether it is master or slave. Check how the jumpers are set and if both are master make one of them slave, then make sure the one you made slave is slave in your bios.

ahh thank you guys. yea sorry, both are connected via the same IDE wire. I will try out your suggestions Pompey and Darkknight. Thanks to all who replied.

no neither drives are faulty because im re-using them from my old comp which worked fine. thanks again.

DAMN, i ran into another problem. when I partitioned Windows Xp i did about 10 gb for it. I did it on my Western Digital 320 gb hd. And thats all i did.
I need help on how i can be able to use the other 310 gb on that drive since windows only thinks that the HD is only 1 gb.
