    Default An idea

Okay I wanted to create a medieval-fantasy mod but I lacked the money to buy 3dsmax and I couldn’t export my models from gmax. So I’ve been thinking how could I create a medieval-fantasy mod for RTW with limited skills.

After much thinking I came up with the idea that different teams and individuals could create their own factions however they wanted as long as they fit the medieval fantasy theme. But in order to have your faction in the mod you would have to submit your models with a medieval fantasy skin. Someone else could create the campaign map and I could do all the text and data editing and create the history.

To be more understandable I will give a scenario on how this can work.

The Byzantium team decided they wanted to contribute to the Community’s Medieval Fantasy Mod (or CMFM for short) so they submit a few of their models with medieval fantasy skins and create the faction Byzantium Turk Empire or whatever they wanted to call it and chose where on the map they would like their faction to be and now you have a complete faction.

Can anyone see any problems with this idea and ways how it could not work? Would people even be interested in a mod like this?

Oh and now that I think about it I or a small team could create new skins for the models.

And sorry for me not being as clear as possible I was being rushed to finish this.

As soon as you hear the word "medieval" and "Rome:total war" in the same sentence it means that there is going to be a lot of work to be done. Would there be one team that works specificly on one faction. That team would work out all of the units, descriptions, stats, starting postion, colours and skins. By fantasy what exactly do you mean? Are you planning to have castles and medieval cities or fantasy units like grail knights and giant swordsmen. it seems like an intersting mod but because I am neither a skinner or a modder, only a humble historian I'm afraid I coudl be of no help, but I'm sure others would be intersted!

You would do far better to do all the planning now and release it for MTW2. not only is the game engineered around your era but the engine will be better. also the whole mod massacre fields for those starting out now. But i do like the faction based teams - although a lot of conflict could arise

maybe it would help if you post some screens of your models people tend to be more interested if you have something to show,i mean someone might offer help with exporting if they like your stuff.
your idea is good but mod teams are very protective of thier original models and skins, in an ideal world eveyone would contribute to a pool of free to use stuff, but in an ideal world id be writing this while sitting on a beach in the height of summer.

    good luck though
