Default Irish Catholic Priests in Africa

Revelations last night on RTE, Ireland's national broadcaster, that Irish Priests have allegedly been involved in child abuse in Africa.

When are we going to make this church close it's doors once and for all?

When we abandon one of the principle tenants of western civilisation. There is a difference between wielding secular authority to protect people from those who would abuse the trust invested in them, and your sectarian blood lust.

Why are catholic priests so attracted to children

Because of an unpragmatic and pointless dogma of celibacy.

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a sectarian slinging match, celibacy in the Roman Church is one of it's traditions it highly regards, calling it pointless and demonising it only stirs up trouble, you should know better.

Every religion is just a collection of pointless and unpragmatic dogmas.

True. This one appears to be acutely damaging, though.

Sorry, but this is complete nonsense.

Nobody is going to molest some boys just because they can't get a woman.

So why are cases of Catholic priests abusing small children, mostly boys, all over the world?
In Malta alone, we have about 6 cases of convents with children who were molested by priests. And this is just in an island of 400,000 people. I've heard there are similar cases going on in Australia as well, amongst other countries.

Meh, I presume it happens with all professions where working with children are involved.

The amount of pedophiles is presumably evenly distributed in the population.

Doesn't seem to be, though, does it? Seems to be Catholic priests, worldwide, doesn't it?

Uhm actually I hear many cases at least here in Italy about teachers involved in obscene acts with children.

Probably you don't hear because you don't pay attention.

Or there just isn't any in my area. trust me i do pay attention and if a teacher molested a kid in school is would be plastered all over the news, or someone would tell me about it. this is the US though so i am assuming its different from Italy.

LOL, relations between teachers and students happen somewhat often here in the states. I know at least two teachers in my HS who had relations with students, and others that people suspected but didn't have any proof.
