Ancient World: TW - For RTW or M2?
Well, as some know, I am making a new mod called AWTW that will be about the 1500s BC. If you want the mod to stay on the Rome engine, then say so. If you want it to be M2, then say so. Here are the pros and cons of switching to M2:
Pros:
Prettier stuff
Higher limits (ie more units and factions)
More features
More options (ie we can have a faction without a royal family in M2)
More tools such as Geomod
Cons:
Hard to mod unless you're used to it
things take longer
Not all have M2
More processor requirements
God dang it I forgot to put the poll in, okay can a mod delete this?

Re: Ancient World: TW - For RTW or M2?
Just thought I would help a fellow modder out as I have been testing the options of both engines for my mod also, I can only advise you but this is what I learnt in a nutshell. You have to look at it logically firstly, if your skills and time are limited and just want to aim on getting the mod out there then rome will be your best bet as most of the work is already done for you. You can make alot of mods just using what vanilla provides and over a lengthy time frame. Its alot easier to manipulate the RTW engine and this is very beneficial. However, if like myself your looking at professional quality and a long term goal, the METW2 will be your best bet, especially if graphics is your main aim. You have alot more options available however you will have to manage your work-flows considerably more as the effort you will need to put in increases two fold. All I can do is advise you on what I have learnt myself. I am releasing a document soon on my full reasons as to why I made the change which may become of some use to you too.

Thank you sir, all this has been thought over, and since I personally cannot decide I figured that I would open it to the community to decide. Thank you for your input, so far we just want to release something, but in addition to the better graphics there are many M2 mods, and most of my modding friends work for M2. That is my main reason for leaning toward M2 so far.

What I would suggest to you then, and this is something that I have noticed that alot of other 'starter' mods haven’t done is to completely plan out your strategy of how your going to tackle the development of the mod. You need to think of everything, how you aim to manage your team, its workflows, the exact content you want, what will be included in the beta and then the final release. I know it sounds obvious but 9 times out of 10 no one gives this a though and they go straight into it. Without a good solid path your not going to be very successful. Im not being harsh I want to see all mods succeed, however alot of people fail because they haven’t given it enough thought. What I would suggest is plan this all out, they weigh up your options, and which engine will be better suited. It may not look it but the difference between the two engines is astonishing when you delve in deep

Yeah. Thanks, man. It looks (from the poll on the other thread) like RTW will be it even if you hadn't just showed me that RTW would be better, but I think I'll port it later when we get off the ground. Thanks man.

It is better that you make this in RTW, since I've seen that you are working on this from august and because RTW suits better for this time period.
