Default Help a noob build a PC

Hey everyone, coming to my favorite forum for building my second PC. I researched everything and hopefully I can come up with some decent and right combo here. Please keep in mind I'm still new to this so here it is:

    CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727

    MB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...96e1a67ff8405a

    PS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341022

    CD/DVD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136236

    HD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136073

    GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102909

    Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146061

    RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231277

    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

    All about $800, my goal
I plan to crossfire, but that wont be for a long time though maybe a year or so
Any suggesting, downgrading unnecessary item, mistakes, etc... are welcome

6870s work well in crossfire for sure. but on and AMD 965BE with 2x gpus you will notice a bottleneck do to the limited system ram bandwidth 2 gpus require massive amounts of system bandwidth,

intel = 20gb/s AMD at best -14gb/s with the average user around 12gb/s as you can see thats a huge difference,

overall id suggest waiting 1 more month

AMD will be releasing Bulldozer CPUs in June, and then theres Intels sandybridge cpus which are just far better performance, so id wait a bit longer if possible. as even if the Bulldozer chips dont prove good for gaming they will cause another price drop on AMDs current Phenom II line not to mention the new motherboards the 900 series will support AM3 cpus AND Bulldozer FX series so you can get a future upgrade path as well at little cost,

if i forget to post a PC build in response send me a PM to remind me. its late and i got work in 4hrs.

I looked it up and it seems like the new CPU and MB might compete against Intel, so it might be worth the wait, but what about the rest of the specs?

P.S. Crossfire isn't a priority for me, for now anyway, so hopefully everything else come in line, yes?

well think of it this way if at all possible get a 2500k from intel or wait till June for bulldozer and read lots of reviews on there performance,

to give you an example in multi threaded games like Dragon Age Origin with the same exact gpu a 2500k is 40+ fps faster then a Phenom II 980 the fastest quadcore AMD has.
In Battlefield Bad Company 2 its around 35-45fps faster with the same gpu.

so id suggest if your going to overclock

P67 UD4 + Sandy Bridge 2500k it would up the price a bunch but well worth the cost in the long run

so yea either the above combo since right now only K series intel chips overclock, or wait for AMD's Bulldozer FX in the middle of June

when i get out of work ill do a quick build on newegg to see what i can piece together.

Wait one month for the bulldozers. Even if they can't compete against the allmighty 2500K, they will atleast cause some price drops.

If you cannot wait this would be my recommendation
Motherboard supports crossfire and Sli in x8 x8 format,
chip is an unlocked 2500k will hit 4.4-4.5ghz easily some will hit 5ghz but require extreme cooling. but something like a Thermaltake Frio etc tower coolers will let you hit 4.4-4.6ghz. 24/7 stable
HDD is a 320gb but its the fastest mechanical HDD available right now. at nearly 150mb/s + read write speeds. if you need more space get a 1TB samsung F3 7200rpm later and use that for storage of MP3's photos anything that dosent need to be on the OS drive.
Mail in Rebates would give you $35 back

Well $100 over budget, but no pain no gain right? Thanks Crazyeyesreaper I'll probably buy your build, is your build ready for crossfire in the future?

yes motherboard supports crossfire AND sli so no issue there but at this point stick with 1 gpu new Nvidia 600 series and AMD 7000 series are do this christmas / early 2012. at which point a single high end gpu of that line will far out before 2x 6870s just to keep you from putting to much money into the gpus

The case wont fit large GPUs it can fit 6870 no issue but larger gpus you would need to measure the space once your motherboard is installed

example i am unsure if for instance a 6950 or 6970 or gtx 580 would fit so keep that in mind as well. as a case is important when it comes to cooling so id suggest a better case as well for the long term. but overall i went for the biggest performance i could get you at the best price, id recommend a price bump to $1000 personally so a good cpu cooler, and case could be selected but eitherway all the parts i picked out will fit and work together and yes AMD / ATI crossfire X and Nvidia SLI are supported in the form of x8 x8 mode

oh and for reference the Asgard case isnt bad but id recommend slotting the motherboard in by itself and take note of WHICH PCI slots / PCIE slots you plan to use and remove the back cover plates before mounting anything inside. as they are a giant pain in the ass to get out once everything is mounted,

    thanks dude +rep
I was holding off on crossfire cause of that, either price drop or both new GPU's can out perform two 6870s either one would probably suit my need. And now ready, bring on Battlefield 3 and Skyrim

well again everything above will work just fine,

so 1 gpu will get you by for now but again new series will be out this fall / december just after BF3 so it might be worth holding onto the 1 gpu and seeing what comes out

as the new die shrink from 45nm to 28nm should result in the next High end gpus being faster then the current 6990 or GTX 590 which are dual gpu setups it means that essentially the next release of gpus in december SHOULD *key word* be about 90% faster then 2x 6870s in crossfire.

eitherway enjoy the system and good luck.
and again dont forget to remove the expansion brackets for the GPU etc before putting the motherboard in, seems a buddy of mine forgot to last night and scraped a cooper trace on his motherboard, resulting in the 2nd PCIE x16 slot not working. so be careful take your time and do it right the first time
