Default A new PC- help required

I have come down the stairs of the TWC main page into this murky abode, to ask for a bit of help
I have the intention of buying and building a pc from scratch, with a budget of ~£800-£1000

So far, I'm quite sure I want these:
I5-2500k (should I want to overclock)
HD 6950 (futureproofing- and when the time comes, another to use in crossfire).
I don't know whether or not to get the 2GB version. I'm thinking yes. EDIT: just noticed this is the 2GB version. Seems I will be getting it after all
    4GB ram- preferably around 1333mhz
    Windows 7 OEM
Keyboard and mouse. Bog standard will suffice, so I'll probably deal with this myself

Now what I need help on choosing:
Motherboard. I haven't a clue really (looking for one around £100)
Case. Same think again (cheap and cheerful suits me fine. I don't care what it looks like- the fewer shiney bits the better)
HDD's. Either one at 1TB, but preferably 2 at 500GB. Either config running at 7200rpm. What do you recommend?
Monitor. I'm looking at something at 22-24 inch- I would prefer cheap here, but don't want to drop too much quality. A compromise, if you will.
    PSU.

    Help much appreciated!

Don't compromise or cut corners on the monitor. Otherwise what's the point of all the fancy hardware? Budget 300 pounds for a good 24" one.

You don't need a 24 inch monitor. My 21 inch has never bothered me before, and I payed only $150 for it when it was on a Christmas sale.

I reckon £300 is pushing it. I have no idea what you had in mind?
This looks absolutely fine to me: Samsung 24" , £175 off amazon (~$250 or so, I think)
Reputable company, good reviews- I think it's what I'm going to go with

    for the motherboard, its simple

go P67 or you wont be able to overclock H67 boards dont oc, z68 will overclock but since there the new kid on the block a tried and true p67 board is best

Id suggest a P67 UD3 or UD4 from gigabyte the UD4 mostly if you plan to ever run 2 gpus in crossfire *amd* or SLI *nvidia*

as for a case, HAF 912 is cheap and has room for alot of fans and can fit large graphics cards to an extent,

as for a hard drive 2x 500gigs is only worth it for Raid 0 but catastophic data loss would make me recommend a single 1tb drive, namely a Samsung F3 1TB its 7200rpm 32mb cache and is effectively the fastest overall 1TB hdd for the price *usually cheaper then every other 1tb drive in existance and its fast so win win win there.

monitors i prefer samsung for there quality

as for the Powersupply do NOT skimp on it a PSU is the actual heart of the system you go cheap and your ever more likely to have a dead pc sooner then later, a stable unit with good power is recommened

for a 2500k overclocked + single 69502gb id recommend a good 550w unit 650w if you want to increase epeen size, for Crossfire of 2 cards, 750w minimum if overclocking, 850w recommended, fact is my rig in my sig is 2x 6970s but fully overclocked playing Bad Company 2 ill hit 800+ w power usage, so if you decide to try and unlock the shaders on your 6950 to make it a 6970. it will use more power and that will up the power consumption more so in multi gpu situations. if your leaving the card stock at 6950 2gb settings a 750w ill work for a dual card system no problem

    Good units
    Corsair 650HX 750HX
    NZXT HALE 90 650 or 750
    PC power and cooling
    Be Quiet.
