It seems to me it is less than high settings. Don't trust the panel settings in Shogun 2.

No, you don't need to edit a logging-file, this would have no effect at all
It just 'tells' you, that you lack 78 MB graphic memory and the game automatically downgrade the options: Sky, Water and Texture - though "texture 2" should be medium. Sky/Water isn't that noticable but your textures are.
Guess reducing the unit size to some more 'enjoyable' would lead to a better effect as it 'eats' most of your VRAM.

Yeah, you are right, but this isn't necessary the best option as it can lead to issues or instability.
But as it reduces the textures by factor 2, it might be worth a shot

And @Diadok, if you don't know what value you have to use; what's the size of your graphic card's memory? (Shogun 2 should display this in the options as well) Just because Darth's example was badly chosen, it would only allocate 68MB of your graphic card

Yeah I missed a digit. It is best to visit a byte converter site such as this http://webdeveloper.earthweb.com/rep...econverter.htm and enter the MB value.
For example your video card has 512MB and the log says it has downgraded 168MB. So 512+168=680MB
Convert 680MB to 713031680 Bytes and put this value in the preferences.

Speaking of chaos shots. One of my -best- battles ever. I actually had AI reinforcements from an ally vs 2 other clans. The clash of colors was epic and the penetration effects I think were displayed well:

Hmm, yeah, I was actually getting the downgrading in some of my battles too. Thanks for bringing this up guys, didn't know about it. It looks like you're getting it too a bit? Have you checked your logs file? It'll say whether or not you've been downgraded.

Not to say the graphics don't look nice, but some of the texture details are toning down by the looks of it. Have you tried entering in the custom value? ~2.0GB should be pleeeenty for this game, if you just manually enter in that value you should be fine I would think. That's what I did and I only have a 1GB card. There's a few spots with slow downs or skips, but nothing I can't tolerate. I think when the game automatically turns the AA down and such, it hurts even more. I don't usually notice it unless I'm looking at screen shots, though - so to each his own. I used 2048000000 instead of 0. Technically it's 2147483648 bytes to equate to 2GB, but either way it should kill the downgrading.
