    Default Riotous mob.

I have an empire stretching from Northern Gaul all the way to Greece, then Down to Egypt, with a few provinces in Germania, but a lot of my Egyptian cities are rioting. More often than not, i will exterminate a populae when i conquer their province. Is there any way to punish the people, or perhaps kill a certain amount for rioting?

that is what exterminating is for. If you read the description window that appears, it basically says the extermination is for riots. other than that, there is no way to settle an unruly city.

I might move all my troops out the city so it becomes a rebel city, then i will go and take it back and Exterminate the populae.

Did you capture the Pyramids? That increases Egyptian loyalty.

Destroy the native religious buildings and replace them with your own. Also recruite spies and place them in the rebellious cities, they might expose hostile spies that stirs up the population against you.

Other than that, the best way to keep people happy is basically to kill them. If you have a solid economy, you could also recruit lots of units and that way decimate the population.

But what if the cities are already at their highest level and cannot be changed? Then you could be stuck exterminating the population every few turns or so. An interesting thing happened to me in MM: I conquered Alexandria, Thebes, and Memphis at their biggest sizes but got no cultural penalty after I had ridden of those pesky growth temples the Egyptians had built. This could be a number of things, but I'm leaning towards the Pyramids and possibly of the Statue of Zeus. I'm just glad that those tedious rebellions aren't occurring every few seconds.

Oh, and another thing, I usually max out the garrison of those cities...usually with peasants. Those guys really are useful.

Even if a city is at its highest level....you could pull a strategy I read about in the BI forums somewhere...this isn't my idea but it would work....first, destroy every building you can't touch for cultural and faction reasons, such as temples and high level troop creators that don't give you anything. Once that's accomplished, evacuate the city. Hopefully you have something on the order of 10 divisions or so....if you do, then you should have no problem exterminating it no matter who controls it. At that point, you have a low-population city you can rebuild however you want. Work on the temples first though.
