Honestly I did not see that coming. Hopefully this is a sign that religious tensions might die down in Egypt again under a, hopefully, new democratic Government.
I hope this is for good and that the Christian VP would make the most out of this to defuse tensions.
But cynically it could be just a calculated political move and as meaningless as a racist/anti-semite excusing himself by saying that he has black/jew friends
Time will tell.

whatever, the copts still have to go to hell
That sounds too good to be true.

Even if the they didnt appoint a Christian, they would still win since they are so popular among the 90% Muslim majority. So I fail to see how this is politically motivated in an attempt to win votes.

I don't think that that is a political move. They will certainly loose the votes of more religious muslims for this. Besides, I think that they are smarter than thinking that the copts of egypt will vote for them
have u ever met a copt![]()
Whats a muslim copt?I was impressed with this part also"has close to 1,000 female members".I saw a documentary about the Muslim Brotherhood and they own many schools and hospitals and do alot of good charity work in Egypt. They dont seem to be a bunch of nutters. Now they have a guy from another religion in a high position so fair play to them and good luck to Egypt with there new dawn.ALAH AKBAR![]()
They didn't choose the VP for the voters, they chose it for the West to say 'Look look, Muslim Brotherhood is very interfaith tolerance friendly'. It's an apologist's wet dream.
My bookshelf is a hate blog.
Problem is the fake moderation is intended to con the west in giving them money because they are ''moderate'' ... never mind the money could end in such charitable giving like terrorism.
If you do it in Botswana or the US it is unconsetial to others countries.

Simon, MB is pretty clear about it's policies towards the west and they couldnt care less for what the west has to say as long as they win the 30-40% of the seats they are aiming for.
the MB has already proclaimed that they will be opening their doors for Copts to join their party, which they had no choice but to do so. yet, to announce their willingness to appoint a Coptic VP is a huge step and weird considering that they will not be running for presidency!![]()
"Egyptians; to the young rebels, and to every one who was killed, bloodied or contributed in the simplest way, what you did has defied any description. you have the world on it's knees gazing at your bravery and determination. you have opened up a new chapter in Egyptian history, one that will be determined by people's love for this country" - an honorable revolutionary,
wow this is huge. Hopefully this quiets down the fears by radical americans afraid of the Muslim brotherhood installing a theology.
I think for many people no matter what happens it will be irrelevant: they "know" everything they need to know about the Muslim Brotherhood.
We have to emphasise here that we are talking about the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, which is present in practically every Muslim country. This influences our views because of the Coptic population of Egypt and recent examples of both strife and cooperation between Muslims and Christians and Muslims.
This is nothing but a good move. Egypt comes to a cross road and to see the Muslim Brotherhood, an organisation certain to influence if not actually direct politics in any democratic Egypt that we hope will emerge, making such an explicit gesture towards tolerance and cooperation is excellent, and I hope bodes well for action in the future.
I think it's worth underlining here that both the Muslim Brotherhood and Copts suffered discrimination at the hands of the former dictatorship. The Brotherhood was banned and its members tortured, and the Christians frequently discriminated against. There may be more potential for common ground here than our Jihad Watchers may be willing to accept.
