I received this request today for permission to possibly use some of RS2's graphics in a university project in Germany:
Good day!
I was asked by a friend working at a project at the University of Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate (German: Rheinland-Pfalz), Germany, to record some scenes from Rome Total War to put into a film intended for schools. She works in a project of the SFB600 (Special Research Department 600) with the designation Ö2, titled "Hellenen und Römer, Juden und Ägypter in der multikulturellen Gesellschaft Ägyptens - Eine didaktische DVD-Produktion" ("Hellenes and Romans, Jews and Egyptians in the multicultural society of Egypt - a didactic DVD production") headed by Prof. Dr. Christoph Schäfer.
The idea is to put in short sequences of computer game graphics every now and then to give the students also something they can easily relate to. Creative Assembly and Activision have already given their go-ahead since they obviously consider it free advertisement for their products. However, it is obvious that most if not all units in the game are not exactly "convincing" historically.
This is where it comes to concerning you. Roma Surrectum II is currently one of several mods being considered as a source for better unit looks. Of course, we cannot decide which mod to use before we do not have an okay from the makers of the mod. Since your mod (and because of this your production team) is rather big, I was unsure who to contact and tried you, since you were listed as one of the heads of the team. Should your mod be chosen after the ones responsible for it gave their go-ahead, you will be informed of that fact of course.
We would be very grateful if whoever is responsible for giving the go-ahead would agree to let us use some battle material we would record according to our needs.
Should there be further questions, please feel free to contact me or point anyone whom it concerns toward me.
The fastest way to reach me is via Email:
s2thseee@uni-trier.de
(university address; should I not answer within a few days, please contact me via my private Email, since the university account sometimes rejects Emails from "outside" for no apparent reason)
darth_zipacna@gmx.de (private)
The homepage of the project can be found here (but is unfortunately only available in German):
http://www.sfb600.uni-trier.de/?site...ame=Startseite
Please do not try to contact Prof. Schäfer or his co-workers on this matter, since he is not deeply involved in the project but is rather the over-all organiser.
Best regards,
Thorsten See
I gave our permission. Hope that's OK.
