Old people uninstall my sound

i got a computer from some old people and behold, i doesn't have sound for some reason. I have no speaker icon in the lower right hand corner thing and i can't make the computer see any speakers. help?

Check your devices in Device Manager. Maybe just needs to be enabled.

p.s. i think that print screen is way better than me explaining it in non-technical terms. (yeha whell this thingy pops up that thingy and says somethin about this thingy)

OK - Let's go back a few posts and look at this again. Did you try to hit the button labeled "Reinstall Driver..."? You may have to point it to the internet. At the very least I'd like you to try it out and tell us how it responds and behaves.

Also, could you grab a screen shot of the Details tab please? Thank you. Good luck!

EDIT: A quick search found other Dell users around the time of this system release that had to disable the integrated audio in BIOS and buy a cheap card. It maybe a defect. If anyone cares to read here it is - http://forums.cnet.com/7723-6121_102-162932.html

i tried that before i posted, i will get a screen of the results, failing that, $20 chip at wallmart.

Wow guys. Just wow.

You will need to find out what the audio device is one way or another to install proper drivers for it.

If the audio outputs are built into the motherboard then you need to find out what motherboard you have to find out what audio device you have.

If it's a separate card then look at that and see what it says it is.

Got a computer model number or anything you could go by?

Check the cd that comes with the motherboard. It probably has the necessary drivers.

I'm going to seriously doubt that came with "a computer from some old people".

Damn those old people!

Maybe we can cut to the chase? If he got the system from "Old People" maybe there's a good chance it's stock and DX will tell us all we need to know?

@Avion365 - could you please post your DxDiag log. Here's how if you aren't aware how to. Good luck!

DxDiag is easy to run if you have any knowledge of Windows. Go to the "Start" button and in that menu choose "Run Program" option ("Run..." in Vista IIRC). In the pop-up field type "dxdiag" and press enter. This is the DirectX test program - let it finish the test. After the test is finished choose the button toward the bottom labeled "Save All Information..." and save it to your desktop. Next open up this forum and post the results by copying and pasting directly to the forum. Please don't post attachments as they take up more space and time - just copy and paste. Please post ALL info and if you can please wrap it in a spoiler tag to minimize page size.

windows xp

computer model coming as soon as i figure it out and mother bored as soon as i get back home and get my internet up

download and run CPU-Z located here: http://www.cpuid.com/

run it go to the Mainboard Tab
it will tell you the make and model of your motherboard example:

Notice where it says model? thats whats important, so go download CPU Z run it go to the mainboard tab take a screen grab and post it. along with what version of Windows your using, aka Win XP 32bit? Vista 32bit or 64bit? Windows 7?? etc etc get me that info and ill get you your audio drivers.
