    Default Vanilla Skins?

Hello everyone, new to the boards and I just want to say thanks for making this awesome series into a Medieval 2 total war game

However, one problem I have with for Stark, Joffrey and Tully is that the skins are mainly palette swaps with new designs on the shields.

When I saw the previews for houses like Martell, I was really impressed and hoped that all the factions would be reskinned to breathe life into the units and stray away from the ugly, generic skins of the vanilla...

I know its an alpha build so alot will change, but will the skins for Stark, Joffrey, and Tully make the same change you guys did for house martell? or is the change in skin made by these factions going to broadly apply for most of the factions? also, are there going to be new units, or are most of the units going to be offshots of the vanilla units?

Just curious, since this mod seems to have alot of promise behind it, and could have alot more if its rosters were more diversified.

The Alpha version is so old now it's hardly applicable to the current version of the mod that the devs are using. In the newer version there will be complete reskins, many new models, and completely new units across the board.

To the team: we really should update our FAQ

The Previews you see here are for the next version. Every faction will get reskinned and unique Units- Not to mention many new Scripts, 2d Art, a reworked map, more factions..

    thats a relief

thanks for answering the question, now I am definately going to pay more attention to this mod.

to the team: keep up the work, if the units really are going to be new then I can hardly wait

Mm. How soon might we get to muck around with a newer version? I expect that it's still under work and all that, but beta versions needn't necessarily be complete. It seems odd to have the latest public version be an alpha that bares little resemblance to whatever you guys are working on: the public can't test and offer feedback on something so outdated.

Regardless though, I look forward to it whenever it comes.

Because the next version won`t be a beta. I wasn`t in the team since the beginning, but as far as i know the alpha was released just to show that some work had been done.

The next version we release will be a full mod, nothing half finished. That`s a design decision that was made early and we stick with it. And isn`t it more satisfying to play with a whole mod? I mean, wouldn`t it take a lot of pleasure away if only half the factions would be skinned, half the scripts would be missing..

Development slowed down for a few weeks but right now it takes up a brisk pace again. As far as i know some of our talented skinners just started working again.

I'm the kind of person who'd rather have a sip of wine now than a full banquet in a year. :p With the attention the show and ADWD is getting, it sound seem like an updated beta would generate more publicity.

But fair enough. I didn't realize the next version was intended to be the complete version. I had assumed there would be further betas, but if the intent is do all the testing internally and then release a finished version, then that's what it is.

Wish I could take a peek, but my modding skills are limited to text based things: strat, EDU, EDB, traits, sometimes scripts, anything in a .txt file. My skinning skills are limited to recolors.

I fully support the decision to release the full mod. The alpha gives enough of a taste so that we know what the full version will be like and I assume putting together a beta out of all the work you have done will take time away from working towards the end goal. However, every time you give TWO WORD ANSWERS and respond to questions such as How will *blank* person be represented in the mod with answers like oh like "oh you'll see " its like you are KILLING MY UNBORN CHILDREN!!!!!
I am happy to hear that progress is going well.

Also, Iaius, you have to consider that the feedback we`d receive based on a half finished mod wouldn`t help us much. We have most things we are going to include planned and discussed already; If we release a beta, with half the stuff missing, people would likely mostly ask for stuff that we have already considered.

And i`m truly sorry, Jaime, but sometimes we can just give such short answers. Sometimes we have something planned, but not actually finished, sometimes we haven`t decided what to do and sometimes we decide to keep stuff secret. (For previews etc.)

I personally prefer to wait and play the finished product. But while waiting I like to be shamelessly teased by new previews ( like TATW does ).

I have started reading the books and watching the HBO show, I had no idea how good it would be and I am really glad you guys are making this mod. Please keep up the great work

in my opinion i like the 2 word answers. For me a lot of the pleasure is in the anticipation - i don't want to know that e.g. John snow appears as a character with an army only when the north is invaded, it's much more cool for me if i don't know that and on my second or third go on the game i get to experience that. (Btw this isn't a spoiler it's a random example i made up in my head - if it turns out to be right i'm going to buy some lottery tickets!)

The reason i love total war is that there are so many details/events/possibilities that it's impossible to pick them all up on one run through and that means that replaying the game is both fun and variable.

So essentially thank you very much to the W:TW team and don't worrry about keeping us waiting, if you've been a GRRM fan for a while you're used to waiting and if you're a newbie you might as well get the experience now.

    Indeed. Indeed
I am really looking forward to this and just hope that they are making steady progress. Not fast, just... progress.
