Default Congrats on the great PC Gamer article guys

Just got my copy and it's a really great article, and it looks like it was written without contacting you guys either. But the goofball did mention the .com address, which is unfortunate.

Still, it's exceedingly complimentary. The only complaint is a non-starter, that you can't run it and RTW vanilla alongside each other. Great press overall.

can you give us better explanation? I don't have PC gamer, just want to know what you're talking about.

Yes, i wish we had known about this whole debacle with the .com thing before that guy wrote his article. This is indeed bad for us, as the .com will get a bunch more hits and be kept alive even more . Unfortunate

EDIT: I am in talks with Steve Klett regarding this issue. Apparently he was in talks with the owner of the fake .com site who supplied him wiht false info.

What the hell is going on? Excuse me while I run out and buy PC gamer.
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

I would like to remind everyone that to read the article, you can go buy a copy of the U.S. edition of PC Gamer. Please do not post scans of the article, which are illegal because they detract (slightly) from the magazine's marketability.

To summarize, however: Steve Klett, PC Gamer's primary strategy game writer, devoted his April 2006 editorial (on page 64 of the magazine) to RTR. He also listed it as the #1 game he was playing. It's generally very complimentary, although it does mention that the battles can sometimes be so long as to be tedious. He also finds it very irritating that RTR can't be installed next to RTW, and I wouldn't pooh-pooh this complaint just because it's par for the course for RTW mods; it would be perfectly possible for anyone to package Vercingetorix's mod-switcher with their mod if they liked.

His major error was giving the site address as www.rometotalrealism.com, which as we all know is run by a scammer who bought it off Tyr, the former head of the team, after he had a falling-out with his teammates. The correct address is, of course, www.rometotalrealism.org, and I would encourage people not to visit the other site. (This is an understandable error; I almost just made the same mistake in the course of documenting the mistake. ) He also describes RTR as a "team of history buffs", while it (much like EB) is more like a few history buffs telling a bunch of historically-ignorant coders, skinners, modelers, etc. what to do, but that's a minor quibble.

Steve Klett can be reached at strategiccommand@pcgamer.com.

Congrats to the RTR team! Now EB should be covered (and please mention TWC... ).

No, they link to legitimate versions. However, they aren't up-to-date. Check out the .org for patches.

Yes, when all the developement and work was made here. This is the place where people discuss and plan RTR. What will people think if they so to .com and see a gambling site?

Tyr was kicked off the team months ago. There was later some suspicion that he pocketed donation money, suspicion that I would like to note I never fully bought, and he got angry at the fact that Caius et al. snubbed him when he came onto IRC to talk about it, so he sold the domain name and has been something of a pariah here ever since.

No, that is someone else. The real Tyr is under a username here called nowonmai, who was banned during the fallout. Tyr and I had a particularily bad time because I was not happy with the way Tyr was treating the team. A day before the fallout I had enough and left. After the fallout I rejoined but later ran into real life problems and left the team. This was a few months ago.

    Wow.
This thread really takes me back. Tyr getting kicked, lol.
It was great at the time to see the workers and craftsmen down tools and rise up.
    Just re-read the article. Awesome.
