    Default just about Rohan

I haven't played that mod yet, but I've been looking to your screenies and stuff, just one advice: DO NOT MAKE ROHAN AS THEY MADE IT AT THE MOVIES, reasons?: at tolkien's books rohan is said to be fertile and green, + lots of plains, but at LOTR films they present it as a dry, sterile land and with lots of mountains
just an advise, do what you want

Well since they seem to be drawing almost exclusively from the works of Tolkien, I don't think this will be much of a problem

Well, I haven't fought a battle on the plains of Rohan, but in the campaign map it looks great!

And I was disappointed with the movies too. I bet they could have found a better plain to film on, but then again, I don't know the environment of New Zealand very well.

I thought it was really pretty. But I tend to rate movie adaptations as movies, not adaptations.

One could argue that the mountains you always see in the background are the white mountains, but that doesn't really explain why they're visible from every single angle in a few scenes

I remember the Pelennor fields were just plains instead of the very fertile farmland where people lived.

Places in FATW are going to look like they are supposed to. Especially with Eorl's new environments, you'll think you've been warped to Middle-earth. Just wait and see.

I second that, and also being a Rohirrim at heart, you can be sure that Rohan looks like it should (I've refined the rocky ravine into which the Helm's Deep settlement is set in battlemap mod just a few days ago, to name an example).

In fact, speaking of the movies: While the landscapes are great, they are very incorrect very often. High mountains (snow covered) where there shouldn't be any, the sun shining from the north, etc...
I read this so called Bible, and found it to be a third rate story in which this so called 'jesus' is nothing more than a shameless lampooning of Brian, which has inspired joy and laughter in millions.

OP, you just assailed the last salient of true-to-Tolkien modding, with the cause of making it true to Tolkien?

    Sense? This threas makes none.

Bear with him, he's probably deeply frustrated by the stupidity of inane PJ fanboys.

The best thing about this mod is the subtle details that are everywhere you look. The problem with most LoTR games is that they never feel true to Tolkien's writings or feel like they fit in to the world, they come across like slap-dash titles which are there to make money. Exceptions would be Sierra's RPG games and the EA Two Towers and Return of the King games which do feel like they fit into their respective mediums, and i'll happily admit I also had a lot of enjoyment with.

But this mod does feel like a natural continuation of the world we have spend many hours reading, it's immersive, it feels like a true sequel to LoTR. Those tiny details that spring out show how much depth and effort has gone into making it as authentic as possible and it's a mod that is easy to lose yourself in for hours. I'll praise the amount of work and effort till the Elves come home.

Basing it off the books was the best choice at the end of the day, the films lack the nessasary depth and accuracy a fair few times.

    Well said, Sire!

I would rather have a memory that is fair but unfinished than one that goes on to a grievous end.

It is odd how it feels like the books, when most other mods (of any series) feel unfinished.

I think the quality is a direct result of the release date policy.
