    Default Griffons and the Empire?

So after searching I found nothing of Griffons in this mod. Were they ever made or even put in?

I personally find that griffons should be in for the Empire heroes, the Emperor, Elector Counts (Gausser for example..). I found that there are some in the High Elves sub-mod and I found that it has been discussed sometime earlier.
And no I have no idea of the work they require to be made.

"Flying" units do not work properly in Med 2. The animation is HORRIDLY bugged up and they cannot fly over walls, buildings, troops, etc. I think Gryffons on foot would be ridiculous, very hard to model, and a bit buggy again, with the animations. Modding isn't some ice cream with a plump, shiny little cherry on top.

But what about the ones in the mod "The Sundering"? And there are also the Demigryphs in lore, Griffons without wings. And having seen nothing else than "standing" Griffons on table-top I think they look cool.

But I do not know of the work it takes to make one, just asking since I saw it has been discussed.

I think you are speaking about things you do not know
I can tell you that our flying units fly properly.

Is there any chance of seeing flying units added for the next patch? Also, can the sundering team add the flying griffons for empire as a unit in the campaign?

At moment we do not plan to do it.

They fly but they are buggy and the animations are bad!

Demigryphs are a new 8th edition addition to the lore (2 sentences in the rulebook) and game. There is only one model made by Forge World so it's not even official.

A unit of Griffons would be way to much. Only powerful lords ride on their backs.

Sorry did not know that about Demigryphs!

Yes indeed, I am only dreaming of Karl Franz on a griffon.

This is a total war engine. i think we could take some liberties to make slight modifications. Having for example a single unit of gryphons in the entire game wouldnt rape the lore. I think it would be acceptable. it would bgring variety and this is game. Fun should always come first.

There are 362 units in this mod atm. It's a nice variety already and when new factions will emerge they will need their own units. Isn't there a 500max limit for units in Medieval2?

Yes but most of them have the same role in a battle cause they are always swordsman, pikemen, spearmen, lancers, archers, cavalrymen and so on. In the other hand there are few rare units which really play in a unique way like the steam tank or the giants. It is a different feeling than just having a unit with the same role but represented as a different model. I believe that the flying creatures would also have an unique approach to a battle. Even though there already is a large number of units adding some total unique units like the gryphons would really increase the gameplay experience in a funny way. Would a single bodyguard for the emperor for example mounting gryphons be that much in the entire game? I dont think so. It is a small amount considering the massive scale battles fought in the mod. Besides isnt it possible to make them like elephants and reduce their number to 3 per unit even in huge scale? In the perilicious campaign submod for tatw the big flying creatures are reduced to 3 per unit.

There is somewhere in the region of 80 units in the EDU which could be removed and no one would notice. Make a generic ship for all factions, delete the rest. There are 60+ bodyguard units which could go too.

I'd say we are years away from hitting the limit and having to make a choice about what unique units to remove to make room for anything new.

if flying units are possible, some gyrocopters could be a laugh..

Yes,. there is, but that includes Armour Upgrades as well.

For example, a unit with up to Gold Armour counts as 4 against the unit limit.

That is incorrect. Unit upgrades only require an additional model in the "battle_models.modeldb" for each upgrade. And as far as I know, the "battle_models.modeldb" doesnt' have a limit as I have mods with over 3000 model entries. A unit can, at maximum, have 3 upgrades to their armor, but they do not count towards the unit limit, which is 500 as you and Grand Admiral Thrawn have stated.
