    Short answer no..

    Long answer sort of.

my recommendation is to get this

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130568

    or this

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130604

dont let the ATI fanboys tell you different for that price range those are the best cards you are going to get.

however they are all going to scream for you to get this so i might as well post it

The 560 is a nice card for the price IMO. I have this version, which is reportedly a good O'Cer (haven't tried it yet) - runs cool and quiet ($240):

The HAWK and Golden Editions are also available from Newegg for less than $300.

Your technique is ... magnificent ...

errr.... I wouldnt vouch for the gtx 460m since the gtx 560ti is a much better card.

and AMD (there is no more ATI) would scream for the 6950, not the 6870, which trumps the gtx 560 ti

Yes, right. whatever he wants. I wont recommend ATI(now AMD) again. the last two I had were nothing but misery. driver problems out the ass and I was tired of it. I love my AMD processors though.

as for replacing his 8800GT this is the very last rating on the NEWEGG site for the GTX 460 superclocked (not 460m which is completely different)

    Amazing

Pros: Replaced my old BFG Tech 8800GT with this and it's like having weight lifted off my shoulders.
    Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: They should've made cards like this from the start. Planning to use another for SLI.

From AMD The Radeon HD6950 2Gb from Sapphire, if you play Shogun 2 at 1080p if will thank you for the 2Gb of VRAM as the new DX11 patch chews up the VRAM like Robbie Coltrane eats pies at an all you can eat buffet.

If you want to go Nvidia the best you going to get is a GTX560 Ti 2Gb, it's not as fast as the card above but you might be able to get a cheaper one with a better cooler.

Ignore any rubbish you read about so called 'bad drivers' I've owned both Nvidia, AMD and 3DFX cards since the mid 90's and I've never had any major software issues with any company all the cards go wrong after a while as it's the nature of beast (the work they do and hard life they have all effect a cards life span).

Well it seems gtx 560 is affordable and I liked what I read about it so I think I'll try that or a 470 gtx depends on what I find when I go shopping 2 days from now. I'm not gonna order from the net since I'm in romania and it's a getting the stuff shipped here.

As for shogun lol I haven't played a tw game since MTW2.

As for my old card it got ed because of the PSU, found out today my 600 psu is actually and my card undercloacked itself just to work.

This is the last time I go cheap on the psu, I got it really cheap and when I saw 600 w I didn't look at the brand lol.

Anyway thanks for the advice I'll look into that HD too.

well for $220 the 460 is a piece of to be honest

since it gets its ass kicked by the Sapphire 5850 extreme thats $140 so paying $70 more for less performance is rather stupid.

the 560 Ti on the other hand is a great choice.

5850 extreme is $70 cheaper and 15% faster thus best price to performance

either way 6850 or 5850 1gb are better deals then the GTX 460 1gb and are far better then the GTX 460 SE which is crap but cheap

    5850 $140
    6850 $165 with MIR $145-155
    6950 1gb $220-230
    6950 2gb $250-260 with MIR $240

    GTX 460 1gb $170-180 with MIR $140-150
GTX 560 Ti 1gb $230 with MIR $210 for a 1gb gpu its the best you can get do to its great overclockability.

    5850 and 6850 both beat the GTX 460 1gb

6950 1gb is same speed as a 560 Ti but the 560 DarkPriest linked above is cheaper
6950 2gb in Shogun II it will dominate the 560Ti do to vram limitation, 2gb frame buffer cards are not effected by the Vram limiter and auto settings adjustment that CA implemented.

Now it should be mentioned that in Shogun II, the 2gb AMD gpus have the edge currently as they are not effected by the vram limiter like every 1gb GPU currently is.

otherwise pick the best performance for the price you can find,

the below charts are from reviews on Techpowerup they Relative performance is all games tested and averaged out. Games tested in the review were
    Alien Vs Predator DX11
    Battlefield Bad Company 2 DX11
    Battleforge DX11
    Call of Duty 4
    Call of Juarez 2
    Crysis
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2
    Dirt 2 DX11
    F1 2010 DX11
    Far Cry 2
    Hawx
    Metro 2033
    Riddick Assualt on Dark Athena
    Stalker Clear Sky
    Supreme Commander 2
    Unreal Tournament 3
    3dmark 03
    3dmark 05
    3dmark 06
    Unigine Heaven Bench 2.0

Link to the review below it includes just about every gpu currently available on the market from the low end to high end

560 Ti is a very good card do to its overclocking potential

I agree. The recommendation for a GTX 460 for $220 is way off the mark and I OWN a GTX 460 1GB (Galaxy "GC edition"). Even worse, it was still $220 when I got it back in August 2010.

Anyhow, for $110 USD you can get a HD5830, which cuts just below the GTX460's performance in most areas, but is very competitive at that price. Take a peek at this review; unfortunately the GTX460 wasn't out at the time of that review, but imagine it's around the GTX285.

If you're willing to dig a little deeper in your pocket book, crazyeye's recommendations also look good. You (OP) never mentioned your budget after all.

    Mmmm, yummy crow.

Well in that case. My fiance just threw down $245 for my upgrade, a HD6950. Slightly more expensive than the GTX460's mentioned here, but a it's helluva lot faster than the GTX460 and edges out the 560Ti. You can easily spring for a 2GB version for $275 and try to flash it to a HD6970 if you have the guts/know-how.

I don't see a reason to go with Nvidia on that budget. Just buy a 6950.

That 2GB 6950 doesn't appear to be reference and doesn't have the BIOS switch so it probably wouldn't unlock.
