Icon4 "Error while trying to make a temporary file. Operation aborted."

After toying arround trying to figure out how to mod my Medieval II: Total War Gold edition, I finally have to throw in the towel... So I made an account hoping that I may solve this evil thing.

I have the files needed for SS-6.4, and I don't think I have corrupted the files. But unfortunatly, I get as far as the SS-6.4 setup.

After choosing my preferences, the game repeats the same error message four times, "Error while trying to make a temporary file. Operation aborted."

I can then press Start and Exit however, as the game belives I have chosen my preferences, which in turn results in a bugged campaign, that does not even start. It says Early Campaign, and lets me choose my country, but when I press to begin, it brings me back to the Single player menu.

From here, if I attempt to do a custom battle or a historical battle, the game bugs out. If I press the "Early Era Campaign" button, nothing happens. But the odd thing is, if I click back, then return to the single player screen, it will once again allow me to choose my country. Attempting a battle will result in an unspecified error, which then closes the game.

If anyone has insight on what I'm doing wrong, I could use a helping hand.

For now, I'm going to attempt to use 6.3, and I may edit this thread if I have to.

you need to give everything for ss and mtw2 and kingdoms admin rights and full control. And then run the .exe files as a admin. Also turn off UAC, but make sure you rerun 6.3 and 6.4 installs after you do that.

Alright, thanks, I'll give that a shot when I get the chance and get back to you.

I did'nt realise that it was a UAC issue that was the problem.

Alright, doing turning off the UAC did in fact resolve the issue.

As for myself, I feel foolish, but perhaps if someone does have an issue they can learn from this.

For now, thanks Losthief for the hand!

no prob...if you don't wanna leave uac off...do the other things....and you should be fine if you install your old games (i.e. pre-vista games) outside program files and run all installers as a adminstrator for future reference.
