Would you buy the next Total War game if it had cartoonish graphics?

Would like to know what other would think of , if the next total war game would have more cartoon graphics e.g " age of empire online " or like " Starcraft 2" for the units.

Would you buy it if say CA would rather concentrate on game play and modding ability of the new game but use not realistic graphics for units. I mean most of the time i don't even zoom into the battle map anyways and i would rather have graphics where i could distinguish my archers from sword samurais.

i think downgrading this way would free resources in the game engine which could be rather used for more important task like even better Bai and Cai.

Or do you think CA should keep on pressing to give us more and more realistic graphics of soldiers and enviroment .

I'd be really disappointed if they did that. It's not right for a TW game.
That said, if the gameplay and AI were amazing, it would probably be better than ETW, NTW and S2TW put together.

Since when do graphic artists do programming. I think there is a GIANT myth that you can't have good graphics and good gameplay. Gameplay has nothing to do with graphics and the guys that make the textures and models have NOTHING to do with the core game. A programmer is not gonna do graphics and the graphic artist is not gonna do A.I.

People need to get this out of their head. Also people need to realize that graphics CAN improve gameplay. If you had the choice of playing solitaire in black and white or with realistic color crads what would you choose?

Anyways bottom line graphics guys do graphics. Programmers do programming. What you should be asking for is a longer time period between Total War games OR more manpower. This is the one thing that just boggles my mind why anyone with half a brain would think that good graphics must mean less gameplay.

I wouldn't. I want to play a game that feels real. They managed to have great graphics and fun gameplay in earlier games (relatively speaking of course). And Shogun 2 is getting things back on track. I don't play many games simply because they have an art style that I don't care for. I think their graphics are great, their programming is just a bit wanting.

Rome total war was still rather bright and not very historically accurate, Mods fixed that though which no doubt has lead to the grittier realistic version we see today.

The only case where it did annoy me was with The Old Republic because that super deformed stylization is something I associate with The Clone Wars TV Show.. which is ing terrible! (as are any games that came out of it) lol. The KOTOR style of characters was fine, they should have stuck to that.

I doubt CA would ever do a cartoon game though, now that they're focusing on high end graphics they'd never do it. With that said, I wouldn't mind a cartoon Total War title.

Hm, Knights of Honor was excellent, i also was modding that. But the very cartoonish/2d battle mode of KoH was just what brought me back to RTW(-modding) although KoH had (has) a way better campaign mode, AI and atmosphere than RTW (note: both games released at the same time). Similar thing with Civilization for me.

Yeah exactly, I keep saying that CryTek should finally do KoH2 using the CryEngine.. If they did that, CA's days are numbered. If anyone knows the guys over at CryTek Black Sea, please let them know this . I wouldn't even care if the game was cartoony, just the idea of a new KOH is ok in my books.

Indeed, all graphic card drivers and 3D engines are made by graphic artists with no programming experience or training whatsoever.

Not sure what you are getting at unless it is sarcasm.

To all people that will hopefully read this.

Graphic Artist do not affect game mechanics.

Modelers do not affect game mechanics.

Level designers do.

Programers vastly do.

animators somewhat do.

the list goes on and on. What I am trying to say is graphics are mostly done by the guys that create the textures, modeling and animators. Those games do not drastically affect game play.

Also it can be clearly seen that CA cared more about game play than graphics as the big graphics patch with AA and DX11 was over a month after release. Clearly they spent more time polishing the game instead of trying to rush DX11 and AA.

i love zooming in battles, wich makes me one of the "hardcore graphics lovers" said above...

No. I play this series for immersion, cartoonish graphic would totally kill it. The day the series goes for non-realistic art style will be the last day I play it.

well you can always mod it out.

I think Empire actually got the colors right, it felt dark enough. Especially more so once modders had their way with it.

The only way and I mean only way I would play a Total War with cartoonish graphics was if it wasn't a historical game. If it was set in some fantasy then maybe but then again I think Lord of the Rings being a cartoon would suck. So probably not.

Still saying that no matter how much time is spent on graphics is not gonna make the gameplay worse. game play is only affected if not enough time is spent making the game. Though there are exceptions to everything. I am gonna keep saying this. Good graphics does not equal crappy game play.
