did you click on the unit, or the land near the unit you want to kill, sometimes you miss the unit and click the land.

All units will march towards the enemy when ordered to fire at a specific target until every available unit can fire upon that unit. Matchlocks are exceptionally susceptable for this due to terrain problems, they must have a direct line of fire between you and the enemy. A hill preventing one unit from firing will cause the entire unit the march forward until that single unit can fire. Because of this, it is better to only give direct orders to attack specific units only when fighting on flat terrain, or you can measure that they all have a direct line of fire to the target. Fire by Rank multiplies the number of "firing" units, and if any one of them cannot fire, the entire unit will march forward until the obstruction is clear.
never click attack with matchlock somehow I notice unlike archer matchlock will walk till they got into optimum range or something now I just eyeball it and drag them into range
Matchlocks are interesteing. They'll walk until they can see the majority of the enemy unit, even if it means walking forward 200 feet to crest that small ass hill you can't see from the overhead view.
yup I never realised that until a couple of battles ago. That on top of forgetting to bring my Yari Sam units forward with my main unit made me have to concede defeat =(
got one of my biggest kill counts with a sam matchlock units that had FBR,400+ kills it got so it can work fine but does need a bit more tweaking as it can act a bit buggy sometimes.I just wish you had the option to turn it off like in costum battles.
