Default Stupid people trying to defy nature get bit.

Why should I feel sorry for people who live in areas like this? I mean you live in an area below sea level in a flood plain. Its GOING to flood, plus hurrcanes occur there. Since the government likes to protect people from theirselves why do they even allow people to live there?

Its the same with all these 60+ year old boomer idiots moving to Arizona expecting that you can baloon the city of Phoenix to over a million people and not have problems with water. At least in Louisiana some of these people are too poor to move and just got ed that way. Then they CRY tears of idiocy saying that Vegas uses too much water, well don't live in a ing desert then you idiots.

What I don't get is how do these people get home insurance? Hurricane, flood, your house is destroyed. Rain, flood, your house is destroyed.

They should just evacuate everyone, open the leves, and let everything be washed into the ocean so people know where not to live. It should be obvious to even the stupidest person that people are not meant to live there.

IDK but the older I get the less respect I have for people in general. I mean how stupid can you be? The funny thing is that in Phoenix, with all the old people living there, its like mini-chicago. You have Rosattis, Palermos, italian beef, etc because half the cities population over 60 moved to that city. The funny thing is that the previous generation might of been called the "greatest generation" I think the boomers should be called the stupidest generation if this is what they are going to do. The reason why I talk about water supply in arizona is when I was down there one of my dad's ignorant "tea party" friends was about government regulation of when you can use water. I would be glad if they deregulated it so they used all the water and got none and their housing prices plumeted to less than $50,000 because its impossible for a human to live there. Dumbasses trying to have a lawn and trees in the desert deserve that.

Every area has its natural disaster. Looks like you have no respect for anybody living anywhere. Including yourself. Bravo.

Not everywhere. I don't think there has been a serious natural disaster in Scotland in the time that humans have been living here. The odd flooding in low ground and some gale force winds, but the most dangerous thing here is snow, which grinds the country to a halt for a month despite the fact we've had it every year since time immemorial. Having said that, I'm not suggesting that people come and live here. I'd take a hurricane or two if it meant living somewhere sunny with decent sized houses and without having to worry about being beheaded with a katana every time I go out.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

What about deep-fried Mars bars? They may not be natural but they are still a problem. Have you seen a thin Scot lately?

not to mention the fact that there are cajuns that have lived down there since before the birth of the country and the tradition/ cultural center that new orleans is/massive debt the country is already in/cost to remove people/legality of forcing so many people to move/weakness of fema. there are so many things to take into account it would be a royal headache. thus rebuild and hope it doesn't happen again

Perhaps he was a bit too vocal but technically hes right. We are building suburban style homes meant on plains and higher ground near rivers that technically have a history of flooding. Its not rocket science.

I saw a few videos of homes along the Missi and they had been built high high above the ground and were literally untouched but a bit downriver theres some idiot with a house build next to the river on ground level and the water was over the roof. Why? Because the land is cheap.

Now on the other hand our ancestors knew something about rivers that flood. So they build their city on higher ground next to the river. Ill give you an example. Memphis - high ground. St. Louis - high ground. And Vicksburg also on high ground. Hmmm perhaps we should build cities on high ground when expanding near rivers that have a history of flooding.

It is not bad to have people who choose to live on the cheap, problem is when their Flood insurance is subsidized. They should pay the full price for their bad choice and surely less people would do such stupid things.

Agreed... I dont live in this area so I dont know what happens when their house is flooded but how much does the state pay to help people? I dont want to sound heartless but we sorta encourage building cheap homes by a river that floods regularly.

This isn't regular flooding. The Morganza spillway is being opened for the first time in your lifetime.

Hmm. Yeah! Goddamn these people for trying to live their life and be happy. You should merge this with your car rant, and then maybe condense it into one epic condemnation of the human race.

    I HATE U!

    That should cover it, right?

Dutchland is a special case. More-or-less, their entire country is beneath sea-level. Where else would they go? Germany?

Although hate is inappropriate in this situation, people live there at their own risk. There is a reason it is called a flood plain. And people who live in deserts should not have a lawn; it's a misuse of scarce water resources.

According to the OP, yes. They're stupid for not being German.

Holland is actually allowed to break dams and flood the rural Rhineland in worst-case scenario's to save its populous urbania.

They transfer a nice sum of money to Germany each year for that little reasurance.

What do the Rhine Germans have to say about that?

The relevant question that the OP forgot to pose is who is going to pay for this? and why should we?

I always thought it ridiculous that you have to buy separate flood insurance...

Not really. You're talking a few orders of magnitudes price difference between typical house repairs for your average storm and the possible hundreds of thousands(depending on the house) of damage a flood will do. Asking for standard insurance to cover floods without a major rate hike is ridiculous.

Yet quite a bit of homeowner's insurance programs will cover tornadoes. Is it because floods happen more often?
