Launcher keeps teasing me!

Hey, I've really loved the total war games for a long time, especially Rome, and I've been wanting to try a mod for a while. I stumbled on Roma Surrectum 2 on youtube, and I really wanted to try it. I watched some youtube vids about how to install it, and I think i've got everything right. However, when I go to the launcher and hit play Roma Surrectum 2, the rome total war thing comes up and the screen goes dark, like the loading screen is about to come on. I can hear it working but after about 5 seconds, it all closes and goes back to the desktop. I have vista, and rome is on version 1.5, and I'm not using steam, I have all the files installed in the rome total war file, but when I try to play the game with a roman campaign with RomeTW.exe, it doesnt work. What do I do?!
