By the chance that the individual I am speaking of happens to be a TWC forum dweller and happens to read this (and he or she probably won't being an ape), but also to make a succint and absolutely clear point. First, I will describe what happend.
Crossroads
Theory
I don't use cavalry anymore (except bow cavalry) because I've been trying out ashigaru builds. I decided that a 1.6k Great Guard is not better than 4 or 6 Yari Ashigaru units. You do the maths; whats better, an expensive cavalry unit that needs constant baby sitting or a wall of cheap expendable spears.
Thus, I bring beaucoup spears and a core of samurai elite and archers. I also bring beaucoup loan swords.
So ends theory.
Note: My mouse has a problem, its the Deathadder, so through this battle below, I had double click issues: so I would sometimes select one unit and end up selecting all of that type. Kinda of mess up my counter charged swords, see below.
Practice
I deploy on the hill forest near the stamina dojo, advance forward and sit on the slope of the hill. He captures the stamina dojo. I move my archers forward to skirmish and then he does harassment charges with yari cav. Half of them get caught up in my spears. Note the fact he also chose to attack me on the forest hill with cav: HIS choice, not mine, HIS mistake, not mine.
Harassment kind of works, as I get tangled up microing units with my double click broken crappy mouse. He advances matchlocks at me to take advantage. I pull back very slightly up the hill to recover my formation as its messed up (combination of his largely ineffective charges and my mouse). He tries chasing my single bow cav a bit too.
So I return fire, matchlocks, etc. He decides to charge me ON THE HILL. Again, HIS CHOICE, NOT MINE, I was trying to control my army as I had problems with micro. I plonk stand and fight on.
So, melee begins, I try and counter charge and my mouse does another fitz, so I barely manage to put my all round defence of spears on spear wall. Hhe smashes against my front; I counter charge with swords.
Then, this is the best bit, the rides his general up into my matchlocks range, plonks down stand and fight. I notice this maybe a minute after he done it. My match locks are on the slop overshooting the melee (you would do the same, remember, HE CHOSE TO ATTACK ME ON THE HILL AFTER TRYING TO CAV RUSH ME).
Down goes his general, down goes his army. Staggling cavalry runs.
Then he accuses me of being a "ing camper". So ends practice.
Conclusion
A few points to note;
I choose an army with many spears as I done the maths and thought, in my opinion, cavalry is useless: it requires extra micro, and is not cost-effective. So I bring a pike, sword, shot and bow army.
This IDIOT chose to attack me ON A HILL. I was ADVANCING OFF IT, and he CHOSE to attack me ON it and accuses me of CAMPING. He CHOSE to try and cav rush and then CHOSE to try and take advantage of it. He also CHOSE to sit his general IN MATCHLOCK RANGE.
All I have to say to this, is that camping is when you take an army built purely and thoughtlessly for sitting on a hill and waiting. My build is not thoughtless, its cost-effective and less micro intense.
What I done was make use of terrain against someones own stupidity (he attempted to rush). Thats called strategy.
So ends my angry point. Final word: the clown I mention in this topic pulled the plug after running away and time wasting and I think it counted as a loss against me: I got a "You connection to the game" and no clan token or win. And yes, I am VERY annoyed at the lack of sportsmanship.
Discuss.
(One more point; armies in the Sengoku period increasingly used ashigaru, samurai are the rarity. It's not my fault I follow the spirit of the game and some idiots expensive yari cav and samurai get ground to pulp by sheer numbers).
