    Default Questions

    I'm a total noob on modding so i came with a bunch of Qs.

    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    <family_tree>
    <max_age uint="90"/>
    <max_age_for_marriage_for_male uint="75"/>
    <max_age_for_marriage_for_female uint="40"/>
    <max_age_before_death uint="105"/>
    <max_age_of_child uint="10"/>
    <old_age uint="60"/>
    <age_of_manhood uint="16"/>
    <daughters_age_of_consent uint="16"/>
    <daughters_retirement_age uint="40"/>
    <age_difference_min int="-10"/>
    <age_difference_max int="30"/>
    <parent_to_child_min_age_diff uint="12"/>
    <min_adoption_age uint="20"/>
    <max_adoption_age uint="30"/>
    <max_age_for_conception uint="50"/>
    <age_of_manhood_close uint="14"/>
    <max_number_of_children uint="4"/>
    </family_tree>

    What is the difference between the blue and red line? I know that red modifies the ''come of age'' thing.

    What is the green line? (hope you read it before your eyes get cancer)

    I installed retrofit mod and did some changes in the descr_campaign_db.xml (where i got this quote) and also some changes in the ai.
    -Do i have to use the io file first command in the .cfg for the changes to take effect?
    -Do i have to start the game from the desktop shortcut or the batch file for the changes to happen?
    -Do i have to add --io.file in the shortcuts ''target'' box to make changes work?

    1. I haven't used the Retrofit mod, but if it is mod-foldered, then you don't need to edit your CFG. Any changes you make within the mod folder will take effect.
    2. If it's mod-foldered, then use the batch file within the folder.

    age_of_manhood is the age at which a child becomes a strat-map character instead of just an entry on the family tree. I don't know what age_of_manhood_close means, but judging by a quick search it is probably related to the offering of adoptions, if the underage male character is at age 14, then the game will be less likely to offer adoptions.
    The max_age_before_death is the maximum age before a general dies. Set it at 105 and characters will die once they reach 105, but chances are they will never reach that level because a) max_age is set at 90 and b) old_age is set at 60. At age 60, the characters start the old age/dieing process, and the chances of death increase with every year that approaches max_age (so that the chances of death are really high by 90). The funny thing is characters become immortal if you set those three numbers too high, the age rolls over at 128 years. Which is freaky and messes up the family tree.

    Thanks! Also, what happens to my saved games before altering the descr_campaign? They still work with the old settings despite changing the files?

    @rebelyell2006: Thnaks! What do you mean roll over? They become young again?

    Yes, the character will becomes young again, but I am pretty sure that only true for Rome Total War. In Kingdoms it's just a display problem. The character is really 129 years of age, but the age meter only counts to 128 and then resets.

    Unreasonably high max_age_before_death, max_age, and old_age, combined with the vanilla two years per turn results in interesting family trees...

    And it happens in M2TW too, not just RTW.

    EDIT:

    And when you change files in the /data/ folder, the game will most likely refuse to load saved campaign games and crash to the desktop. It might load and use the new settings, but for my installation it always crashes and I have to start a new campaign.
