    Default Bow Cav Spammers

They piss me off. SO. VERY. MUCH. Its pathetic. If everyone spammed cavalry this wouldnt be strategy game. And its possible to beat them. I can sit inside a wall of spearmen while they run around and take shots. BUT ITS A WASTE OF MY TIME!!!! For the love of god, I have never alt-F4'd until today, but now I get why people do it. 20 minutes I wasted on that game and all that guy did was run around his cavalry. Pathetic.

/rant had to get this out

    So, who here would:
    1) disconnect
    2) keep playing
    3) send some insults
    4) rush a corner of the map and leave computer, go grocery shopping, etc.., then come back in 20mins

I still think bow cav should get -25 range so they're not so good at skirmishing foot archers, but they are far from unbeatable. You sound like you just brought an army with no capability to kill them, then admit to pulling the plug

You need a combination of bow monks or upgraded range bow samurai, matchlocks and spears or naganitas, or *shock* bring a unit of bow cav yourself. All those units also have a place in a normal balanced army, so its not like you're wrecking your army just to be prepared for bow cav.

Just try and dodge his arrow fire the same way good bow cav players dodge yours. The idea is your long range monks or samurai archers hit him from out of his range, and if he tries to close on them your guns shoot him. Matchlock ashiguru are cheap, so it's not really much of a loss if you end up losing one of your guns for one of his bow cav units.

spammers, noobs, campers, art users..........all part of the game, even though its not fair. try to make the best of the situation and move on, its just a game.

Bow Cavalry spamming (>6) is pretty cheap, but a mix of them with melee cavalry for the mounted army isn't bad. Otherwise, I actually praise those who seek the quality skirmish phase, say a 1-2 Bow Cavalry with Light/Yari support. Some casual foreplay before foot skirmish/melee units engage is a change of pace and refreshing, even if I'm the one who's outplayed. It's also good for developing your micromanagement, say juggle 1 on the threshold, then try 2 (3, 4) at once. I can do ~4 comfortably at the moment.

Yeah these people are part of the multiplayer experience. I've played against mangonel campers, noob box campers, but this one pissed me off. The guy didnt annoy as much himself as the fact that it is possible to win like that. imo bow cav price should be raised to 850. Right now they are only 150 more than regular archers.

Occasionally I bring a few bow cavalry units, but they never comprise my whole army...

I'm still yet to meet someone using so much bow cavalry, and effectively protecting them with melle cavalry. With the right combination of micro and ambush tactics that could be a deadly combination, especially versus someone who doesn't use a lot of foot archers/matchlocks. For example with good enough micro bow cavalry, depending on what your opponent brings to the field, it could be used to harass the main melle core, skirmish against the archers, or lure the opponents cav away to your melle cav ambush points to eliminate he's cavalry and establish field dominance. Then you could easily pick away to what's left especially if there aren't a lot of archers. The more I think about it I can see more and more ways that kind of army could function, I might give it a try sometime in the future.

Yeah I played him in my last tournament game. That guy is GOOD at skirmishing. I can manage one or two units of bow cav that are close by eachother, but he'd be skirmishing with a bow cav, a matchlock in the forest, and a couple foot archer units all at once in completely different parts of the map.

Mine would be a variation of options 2 and 4. I don't like disconnecting from games, but if they want to waste my time. I will waste theirs, and the amusing part of all this is that it's called "Strategy". OK, I'm going to "Strategically" sit here in the forest... I can't even say that with a straight face.

A few days ago I went up against an army with all cav and 3 bow cav, I won in the end by taking advantage of the terrain and utilizing my units correctly. But clearly he had the advantage.

My question to you Kazuhiro, how many Bow cav did the guy "spam"?

Meh, you're just setting yourself up for a loss if you think bow spam gives you an advantage. The skirmishing phase of a battle is "important" but it's a drop of water in comparison to what the main melee clash is. Just protect your units, move them under cover and watch their overpriced light cav/bow ashigaru get a couple dozen kills. Remember, it is very very hard to outright lose during the skirmishing phase of a battle.

Who cares about those. The prices were increased so if they are still used even now it's a major setback for the user, unless they bring them to the best map for them I dunno...

Open maps aren't usually the best for bow cav, remember rice fields has forests too if the person fighting the bow cav wants to hide.

The best maps for bow cav are big maps, with lots of hills. Gives your bow cav more time to skirmish or pepper a rush army before they hit you, making them kill enough to make them worth it.

I'm just saying, the last time CA released an expansion for a game called 'Shogun' it was called 'Mongol Invasion'.

I think you're either in the wrong thread or quoting the wrong statement, no where did I mention bow cav lol. I was refering to his statement about the mangonels.

bow cav canīt skirmish with foot archers for more than a short time when u have more than one archer.
they are only 60 men. 4 archers are equal to 8 bow cav!
put some yari and light cav to it and you still have room enough for katanas.

sometimes i dodge arrows with my bow cav but they often i loose 3/4 of their men after some minutes.
if you fell for that, you will waist most of your arrows.
if he dodges you can set the autofire off/on so each archer fires at a different time.

bring archers and yari/ light cav.
he cannot micro all of them.
sooner or later you should get them one by one.
a spam is weak because of the imbalance, exploit that.
or maybe sacrifice some ashigarus as fodder.
    act donīt react.

no unit is OP anymore since the patch and for every spam you should have units to counter in
your ( hopefully balanced ) army

As i learned how to play i got frustrated in triying to get a certain unit to vet
or just lost and didnīt know what i did wrong.
but then i started to think where are the specific advantages on the map or which
other units can support what i want to do.

trial and error. try things and use your head.

    donīt get mad, get even.
btw i just won 2 games against katana rush armies with my standart balanced army.
