    Default Help :(

So, I purchased RTW Gold edition from a shop a week ago. I installed it and even played for like 5 times with the house of Julii. It was great, epic fun just like we all know this game is.

    BUT

And now comes the less pleasant part. At some point, I try to open the game. I get the SEGA loading screen, the credits and after some time 10-20 seconds the game crashes. I retry to open it but with little to no succes, as it starts again, I see the loading screen, only to get the game crashed again. I reinstalled the game but still nothing.

Any help would be apreciated and rewarded with rep. And maybe with some Carthagian land if I'll beat them.

I will try now. I do not see a big difference at the horizon, but I will give it a try.

When it crashes is it simply a CTD or does the PC lock up?

Have you added the -show_err switch to the shortcut properties target? There is a stickied topic that shows how to do that.

What happened on your PC between when the game was playing OK and when it started to crash?

Has any software, including Windows, had any updates?

What operating system do you use?

If you use Windows 7 you may try the 'Event Viewer' to investigate if anything is going wrong with your system. Look for something that happens immediately prior to the crash and look for an error or warning that does not happen a lot (when you look at the 'Event Viewer' there are a lot of warnings and errors going on in the background).

Are you, by any chance, use an older version of TuneUp or CCleaner? I remember that one of those programs kept deleting a few files, which resulted in a crash after starting the game.

Simple Ctd. I use windows XP, the old one, not 7. I have not by any means updated my computer or added the show_err thingie. I don't even know what is Tune up or the other application... Thx for the feedback, guys.

Do you have Windows set to update automatically? You may have gotten an update and not been aware.

Answer Brusilov's question - What happened on your PC between when the game was playing OK and when it started to crash?

If you can load the game successfully at least five times then you start hitting random CTDs then something has likely changed that you may not be aware of. Good luck!

The -show_err switch is added in the same way as the -enable_editor or -movie_cam switches are shown in this thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=62217

Adding -show_err should always be the first thing you do with an error. I have the switch set up all the time. If the error is trapped by the exe then a message will come out. Not all CTDs get an error message.

Did you even bother to look at the stickied topics to find out how to do that? It's your CTD not ours.

Sometimes computers have a habit of doing things their way.

Do you have a restore point you can roll back to?

Have you tried installing .Net 4?

Have you considered unnstalling the game, deleting the Rome folder, running a registry cleaner to remove the rest, reboot, and reinstalling?

Just followed the last tip [many thanks to irishron] and deleted my savegames [it did hurt a little] but now it works. I have opened the game a couple of times now, it works perfect. I'll spread some rap to all those who helped me. God bless you and America .
