    Default The Debate Thread

To prevent the flow of debate posts into both the chat thread (yes, I'm aware the original intent of the chat thread was for debate, but this is just getting over the top) and everything else in this forum from getting overrun with spam, this thread will be created for all future political discussion. Please follow the rules laid out at the beginning of the chat thread.

EDIT: Barry, if you feel that this is unnecessary and that the chat thread is enough, please delete this. I just thought it might be a good idea to keep the chat thread as a reserve for more friendly conversation and to preserve the rest of the forum for IH discussion.

Okay, so which should we address first, Abortion/Death Penalty, or Oil?
when the union's inspiration through the worker's blood shall run,
there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun,
yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?
but the union makes us strong.

Indeed. I believe Fred had the last word on that in the chat thread. He can feel free to re-post at his leisure.

I'll do it tomorrow, playing RTW at the moment and going to a movie tonight.

We will never completely run out of oil. Fred, refute it.

Yes we will, at least for a few hundred thousand years, as Dan said.

Not necessarily. Remember that oil is continuously being produced as well. We could be getting more oil now that first started out 100,000 years ago.

True, but we are certainly extracting much more than nature can produce.

Well... Im not against or in complete favor of it... For me it depends really. I dont think someone should abort just because she didnt use preservatives (although I wouldnt go so far as making it illegal, it's her choise in my vew...). But I think that, if the fetus is proven to end up being born a vegetable then the person could abort. Another reason where a person could abort is if she was raped. As long as the fetus hasn't developed pain-receptures, I believe it's ok to terminate under these conditions...

Not necessarily. Considering Russia is still sitting on oil sources it hasn't bothered to tap yet, as well as how much untapped oil there is in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico, it seems like it's going to be a long time before we get into a danger zone.

We have a chat thread as well. IH threw out the rule book long ago. Not like the mods ever poke their noses around here anyway. Last time we had one was when Ponti came around sometime last February. I love how much autonomy they allow us.
Good to see somebody else who's pro life!

Back on topic, I like the idea of nuclear power as a different source myself. It's almost endless, it produces much more energy than anything else, it's clean, and, if handled correctly AND NOT BUILT ON A FREAKING FAULT LINE, completely safe.

Statistically speaking, that almost never happens.

and on the energy topic nuclear?? what about japan and all the other mistakes
See my post on NOT BUILDING IT ON A FREAKING FAULT LINE! Or on the coast for that matter. I'm sorry, but Japan's possible nuclear radiation was their own fault due to poor planning. They should have built their plants inland.
