Default Problem with the sleep function Win7

    Hey everyone,

Does anyone have a problem with the sleep function in Windows 7? Every time that my PC goes to sleep, I have to restart it because it becomes non-responsive. Just wondering if anyone has had, or does have, this problem and if there is a remedy for it.

On a side note, how many of you keep your computer on, as opposed to turning it off every time that you are finished on it? I am just wondering if leaving it on constantly will run down the components faster. I was thinking, though, that if you turn your PC on and off a lot, then that can cause some wear and tear, as well.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't know about turning it on and off, but if you've got expensive parts, I most certainly wouldn't leave it on all the time. Plus your electric bill will go up up up.

As for sleep, if it's unresponsive, try pressing the power button to take it out of sleep mode. On some computers (depends on the mobo/case I believe) that will bring up your desktop instead of turning it off, if it's in sleep mode. Then again I don't recommend sleep mode. It's never worked well with windows, and lots of components stay running at full strength. I'd advise hibernation instead.

Yeah, that's what I was kind of thinking, too. I will give hibernation a shot when I get home. There are just times where I have to leave my PC on, but I do not want every single component to run if they don't have to.

Remember that Sleep mode and Hibernation mode are two different animals. In Sleep mode active files are kept in memory so the system must maintain power to RAM. If the power is cut then you'll need to reboot and the OS needs to recover. Hibernation saves files to the disk and is all but powered down. When reactivated it boots without a POST check but it may as well have been turned off. Personally I just shut the system down when it's not needed.

I have the same problem with windows 7, when I hit sleep mode the PC won't wake up and needs a hard reset. I couldn't find a solution, other than turning off the PC, which isn't always ideal.

I had the same issue but i don't how i fixed it as far as i remember it was related to my HDD driver or the power options of my HDD in control panel.

Cool. Thanks fellas. I will look into some more. I just feel like I am going to break something sometimes because sometimes I only have my PC on for 45 mins and other times for a few hours. I feel that if I keep turning it on and off like that something bad is going to happen .
