    Icon12 Amazing AA

EDIT: Feel i need to edit the main post now, the below issue was due to the game turning off AA if your video card memory was insufficent
Solution: open preferences.script.txt in AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Shogun2\scripts and change gfx_video_memory 0 to 2036870912. May cause crashes!

There was a setting in the nvidia inspector control panel (third party app, with advanced driver controls) for Shogun 2, an Anti-Aliasing "behavior" thing that previously restricted AA from working even if forced.
Before the DX11 patch. I tried removing that flag, setting it to "None" instead, as with all other games, and as enabled AA to be forced before the DX11 patch (with glitchy results regarding water though).

I figured that old behavior flag might have caused conflicts, but it did not make any difference to disable it.
I guess we'll have to wait for new drivers for this one.

just had a test run with shader model 5, MSAA x8. DEPTH OF FIELD OFF. i cannot emphasize it enough, not only is it a huge FPS hit but it's not even pretty to look at! as you can see from the OP's photos, it looks like you're in some surreal dream. game looks GORGEOUS (at least more than before), especially when the sun is at its zenith and everything looks nice and shiny, but not overkill shiny. FPS feels about the same, or better, but who knows because it could just be a placebo effect as i did not run fraps. all i know it was smooth.

now all they need to do is fix the confetti-looking trees in the distance and the blurry text.

    heartfelt thank you to CA.

There is defiantly a FPS boost I am now running with higher settings DX10 / AAx4 and Large scale units when previously I was using medium and its running very smoothly.

I have a gtx 570 and AA seems to be working for me (although not in the main menu for some reason). Maybe your Nvidia Inspector settings are somehow conflicting with the game's AA?
Also maybe the game isn't using any transparency AA which could be the reason for jagginess still appearing...
Also I agree about ultra unit detail running a lot better now.

-edit just noticed you already mentioned transparency AA

I'll do some more experimenting tonight, trying to force transparency-aa or even supersampling, at the very least it definetly looks better than before

The only aliasing that really offends my eyes is from projectiles, portraits, and distant buildings. Kenshin's spear in particular drives me insane whenever I'm about to start an Uesugi campaign. Is it really that hard to effectively implement a feature that has been standard in games for years? If you're The Creative Assembly, evidently it is.

my ATI Radeon HD5700 supports it and i tried both MSAA x8 and MLAA on shader model 5 with most stuff on ultra and i dont see any difference?

It's still as jaggy as without AA??

can you post contents of your gfx.log its in

I wonder if the patch has made the overbudget / downgrade problem worse for some cards

Forced in the driver settings instead. 8x MSAA, 8x Transparency Supersampling. Oh hell yes!
Will reduce to 4x for the sake of maximum framerate though.
The arrows and other specular surfaces still look odd, but alot better. And the trees.. Oh lord the trees. No more flickering.
    Time to start my campaign!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
