    Default Epithets

Here's the list of epithets I made. These are only for Seleucids, Ptolemies, Macedon, Pontus and Pergamon. These are for FL only.
I've also made some suggestions as to what traits would give them. For some of them it would be good to make some new traits, and for some of them it would be better to tie them to others... dvk?

    Nikator (Victor)

    • VictorOthersVirtue (lvl 3)

    Theos (God)

    • don't know, but he should do sth great to get that

    Soter (Savior)

    • Prosperity Index (7)?

    Callinicus (beautiful victor)

    • Handsome (lvl 3) AND VictorOthersVirtue (2) - don't know if it can be done like this ...

    Philopator (father-loving)

    • LovingFather (quite appropriate )

    Epiphanes (God manifest)

    • ReligiousMania (lvl 3) - I'm not completely sure about this, since it is a negative trait... the title was in most cases positive, but I couldn't find a fitting trait... maybe a new trait?

    Eupator (of a good father)

    • if it can be done with the "Takes after father", with his father having some good traits

    Philoromaeus (friend of Romans)

    • if it can be done through diplomacy (alliance with Rome) and Rome's strength?

    Philadelphus (brother-loving)

    • haven't a clue I guess it would be a random trait, provided that the FL has a brother

    Nikeforos (bringer of victory)

    • NaturalMilitarySkill (lvl 2)?

    Megas (the Great)

    1. Conqueror of ...
    2. Prosperity index (8)

    Keraunos (Thunder)

    1. Personality_Hotheaded (3)
    2. Personality_Confident (2)

    Pogon (bearded)

    • Philosophy skill (3)

    Poliorketes (besieger)

    • GoodBesieger (2)

    Eurgetes (benefactor)

    1. Personality_Considerate (3)
    2. Generous (3)

    Philometor (mother-loving)

    • random I guess

    Monophthalmus (one-eyed)

    • Battle scarred (3)

    Kalos (handsome)

    • Handsome (4)

    Aniketos (invincible)

    • NaturalMilitarySkill (4)

    Hierax (hawk)

    • Scout (3)

Maybe Soter would be better if the FL saved a city or two from a besieging force.

Hey Rex... or perhaps a major invasion or several battles against a large number of armies within a versy short period of time ?

Neither one would be possible, as there is no way for the game to recognize such acts. Successfully 'defending' a city against siege assult would be possible, or a number of them?

Where can I find a "list" of possible events/circumstances to look into?

I would say that Religious Mani level 3 would be good for Epiphanes.

    ¬--------------------

    {One_of_the_Gods} One of the gods

    {One_of_the_Gods_desc}
This man's certainty that he is a god in mortal form is disturbing to many. But no one really dares say so!

    {One_of_the_Gods_effects_desc}
-2 Influence, -1 Command, -4 from personal security, +10% Bribe Resistance
This seems entirely appropriate for someone like Antiochus Epiphanes - this is wikipedia's comment:

But his often eccentric behavior, capricious actions and even insanity led some of his contemporaries to call him Epimanes ("The Mad One"), a word play on his title Epiphanes

I thought about that too ... But I would say that Epiphanes is essentialy a positive epithet. I think people were given that name, not because of what they done, but IMO either because of their looks, or their invincibility in battles.
First would be very reasonable, because there were many cases in history where people thought their ruler was a god, based on his good-looks ... even though he might not have been a very good ruler - one instance is Gallus (the brother of Julianus Flavius, the last pagan Roman emperor). Especially common people tended to voice their support merely because of admiration...
The second option is also very possible. I mean kings have always claimed some titles for successes on the battlefield - however absurd and deserving they were. Victor, the Great, the Invincible, Beautiful-Victor, God, Savior ... are all titles taken because of some military prowess.

In the case of Epiphanes, I would leave two options: one could happen through the Handsome traits (where a new trait would be made, with a percent of chance to get the epithet, if he was popular with the people), or through some military traits, that could trigger the "One of the gods" trait, that would give the epithet.
    What do you think?

As far as I understand it, he took the name for himself rather than was given it.

The problem here with these is that if you use traits that ALL factions get, then all of them get those epithets. You can't restrict who gets it, unless you have traits specific to either a culture or a faction. That's basically why I axed almost all of them, because they may be great for factions that use no surnames, but it butchers the Roman names.

These would be only for Seleucid, Pergamon, Ptolemies and Macedon faction leaders, so you can use this trait as the condition....e.g.:

    Trait Egyptianleader
    Trait GreekleaderSeleucid

I know that, Tone. The conditions under which the trait is given isn't the problem. The problem is that you can't make the epithet SPECIFIC to any faction or culture unless the trait ITSELF is specific. Other factions use 'RelidiousMania, NaturalMilitarySkill, Prosperity_Index, PhilosophySkill, GoodBesieger, Handsome, Scout,' etc. So it doesn't matter if you only 'intend' for a Greek character to get the epithet, because a Roman character who gets the level of that trait, or any other character is going to get it to.

So the only way to implement any of this is with a bunch of traits that are specific to the culture, and then further specific (in the trigger) to the faction.

Can't you just copy the traits (eg.: ReligiousMania2) and make them available to those cultures? I guess you'd have to write triggers for every faction, though?

    Default Re: Epithets

I guess then each epithet needs its own trait triggered by certain other traits, e.g.:

    Trait EpithetEpiphanes
    Characters family
ExcludeCultures roman, barbarian, nomad, eastern, carthaginian
AntiTraits ....all the other greek name epithets

    Level Epiphanes
    Description
    EffectsDescription
    GainDescription
    etc, etc

    Trigger Epithet_Epiphanes
    WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

    Condition IsFactionLeader
    and Trait ReligiousMania2
    and Trait EpithetEpiphanes = 0
    and not FactionType greek_cities

    Affects EpithetEpiphanes 1 Chance 100

I'm in the process of adding these as new Epithet traits, which will use other traits to trigger them. A couple I could find nothing to trigger them 'with', and the FL ones will have to be exclusive of each other.

On second thought, it makes more sense to tie the "Megas" epithet to FL standing traits (like lvl >=6) than Prosperity indexes...

Also, lol ... dvk, you've added the Greek epithets to the Parthian EDCT, and left the Seleucid one without them

EDIT: I would also like to look into descr_names file, to remove any conflicting name (eg. Callinicus, Soter etc), so that we wouldn't end up with characters like Callinicus Callinicus.

Alternatively Megas could be linked with settlement count - if the settlement total is > 50, 60, whatever...
