I don't really understand the whole marriage premise

Maybe I've not been paying close enough attention, but can someone help me with this?

1. How do you know what faction a prospective bride will from?
2. Why is it that when my Princess marries another general, he joins my faction, but when my general marries a princess, he stay in my faction and has babies?

I could be way off here. Sorry if this is a common repost, I search someone of the guides through google but didn't find these answers.

When you get a request for marriage for your generals, it is not another faction's princess. It is some random woman presumably from your own kingdom. If another faction's princess successfully marries your general, he will go to their faction.

Basically anytime you are offered a princess you should take it. However, you can hold out and try to get one of your generals married to another factions. If you do it's supposed to increase your relations with them.

That's how it worked back then anyways.

Though I doubt it helps much with vanilla AI.

I thought we could. I have married family members into other factions when they sent a princess before.

Ok, is there a way to know that the princess is from another faction?


I am always baffled when I get those popups as it just mentions the name of a princess and half the time I don't even realize when they are old enough to get married.

if an offered princess is from another faction, it will show up as a diplomatic screen, and if its generic, it will come up as an event or something
