    Default Freeze when assualting

    This hasnt happened to me before playing this mod. The crash occurs when I select several units and draw were I want them to stand. It has happened twice so I think its possible it could happen again

    I have also had those freezes many times. They emerge if I try to move grouped units who are far from each other or near obstacles like rocks. I am not sure but it seems to have something to do with pressing space while moving.

    Anyhow ...do you notice this while you play or paused?
    In deploy phase or mid battle?
    With siege machines or not?

    its in mid battle. I dont think the game was paused and I didnt use any seige weapon. Calo described it well. it seems to happen when I move grouped troops near a wall or something.

    When you ctrl-A drag all of them and drop them elsewhere?
    Generally I have not witnessed anything like that up to now. If it does not happen all the time maybe it is smthg that depends on map settings specifically (too many obstacles)

    I've had these crashes (game freeze actually) as well on occasion. For me, the game's paused and if I select a couple units the crash happens right when I right click and drag to position them. Usually it's during a seige, and when either I or the AI is sallying out. Maybe it can't find a path through the gates? Modding isn't my strong suit so I'm clueless.

    It doesn't happen often.. but often enough to be annoying

    I use no mods at all just yours, and my game as been totally installed from the beggining like you advise in your instructions and still I've noticed the same problem, normally with archers. When you make a group for example with 2 units of archers and than drag a line with them (holding the mouse) in the pre battle or even once in the middle of the battle, normally the game freezes and you need to restart the computer or log off.

    I tried to decrease the number of archers per group in the export_descr_unit file and the problem seems to be almost solved since now it only happens from time to time. I tried the gauls and the romans btw, and it happen to both, maybe a problem regarding formations with a certain amount of units? Can't be sure... .

    Nevertheless I really think this is one of the best mods ever, the AI is now a lot more realistic. The new skins and models do look very nice and the formaions are perfect, althrough I've noticed that a lot of the UI pictures don't match the units in game, maybe something to introduce in version 7? Just a thought, you have for example a unit of an axeman that belongs to a cavalry unit.

    Despite this small problems, congratulations Darth very nice work mate.

    @seven,@The Portuguese: So as I can understand this happens to campaign sieges when trying to group multiple archer or missile units?If you say that this happens when you want to do that in normal battles then I must be very unlucky not to have anticipated this just once. If I had I would have fixed it for sure.
    But in order to test this extensively until I upload the finished 7.0 I must test it thoroughly.
    Do you see this in custom siege battles?

    Also thank you for your words and your reports.
    As for unit icons I would like someone to help me for this bcs I ....am bored to do this also + no time.
    Certainly I would like to have this ready for 7.0 but if I have to delay 7.0 for this reason then....no.
    Most of them have been done by me in haste with main reason to be specific and so someone understand what unit is what (except that you mention..gaul night raiders)

    Perssonaly it happens in both custom and campaign battles, that's why I'm ""suposing"" that it might be related to a particular formation of some archers and the amount of units in question.

    I've tried it extensively and I only found this problems with archers and only when grouped with at least one more unit of archers, that's why when I decreased the amount of soldiers per unit on the archers the problem was almost solved, now it rarely happens, and before, it happened almost everytime I forgot that I coudn't draw lines with archers when grouped, I've also tried on different maps and on different locations and it didn't seem to have anything to do with.

    Just for the record I have an ATI Radeon X850 I've installed the game all over again and I've installed a different mod just to check, it could be something to do with the amount of polys drawed on a straight line or something but the freezing never happened and some of the units where extremely large in numbers,... than I've installed all over again from the beggining and as soon as I've installed your mod it freezed imediately as I drawed the line with both the Gauls or the Roman Archers.

    I have my problem solved, as long as I decrease the number of soldiers on the archers I have it fixed so... . And if so far only 2 people talk about this problem I really don't think it's something you should bother much, as long as it doesn't reach the hundreds ... as you know you can't make mods bug free, cause every computer is a different machine, that's why they make patches and hotfixes, drivers and so on

    About the UI pictures, well I have the entire Gaul and German foot soldiers (all but cavelry) custom made by me, the problem is that I've just renamed the unit names in the export_units, export_descr_unit and the export_descr_unit_enums so I could make them work properly for me, to make them work for you you will have to do something similiar, or for example models like the barb_cavalry or the barb_infantry_longshield will have the same picture for more than one faction when in reality the texture is tottaly different.

    I can send you what I have and you may use it if you decide to, althrough you will have to edit all the unit names for each picture, and as you know it's easy but it takes some time I would like to help you, but I'm really stockpiling at the moment, I plan to change all the UI pictures for custom made by me, since I prefer mine, but taste is taste Nevertheless if you want mine which ain't much, drop me your email and I'll send them to you, than you decide if you use them or not, thank you.

    Now it happened again. This time it wasnt a seige. It happens when I draw a line with grouped units. Very annoying thing and I think this is something that needs to be fixed. I didnt have any archers in the group only one velite troop.

    Thank you for your interest in my mod.(Although the freezing is smthg I cannot see in my games and I try too much) Try to do the following.
    If you have a battle that you know that will happen again (have saved before) replace my human formations with old default and if it persists then not my error really.
    If you have manually changed some graphics of units and you have not created sprites for them it is very possible that when you make the drag your computer ctds due to the high cpu that is needed for the hres skeletons.

    OK I have finally anticipated it. It happened only once when I continuesly moved ,selected multiple units of Romans, grouped them and then tried to place them in a single line by dragging. The cpu could not handle it.
    If you use formations with alt-click you never anticipate this.
    Probability in tests was 5%. I will make it 0%
    Also it happens a lot more with sieges and I found the reason.

    So what was the problem, and will there be a patch? I love your mod and this is the only problem I'm having.. the rest works amazingly well and it's alot more stable than most other mods even with this bug.

    The freeze still happens, unpaused, when using the "single line" formation and dragging units into position while holding space to see the previously planned positions of the units. As the units get closer to the settlement it'll freeze.
    A Julii general's cavalry and two hastati units caused the freeze while assaulting segesta (first senate mission). Segesta had it's initial two units of barbarians mercs.

    I've found the problem, and I'm embarrassed to say it was on my end. I have a video card with a heatsink, and just below it I had mounted a small case exhaust fan to pull the radiated heat directly out the back of the case. Well, on a hunch I cracked my box open and saw the fan had died, so it's proximity to the video card was actually containing the heat instead of dissipating it. I took it out, tossed it in the trash, and now the mod works perfectly and I'm even enjoying a nice boost in framerate. So, summing up, graphics card was overheating and causing freezes and I apologize for blaming your mod, Darth. Other people who have freezing problems, make sure your heatsinks are clear of dust, your case/processor fans are actually spinning up, and you have adequate ventilation inside your case. This may solve many issues. It's actually quite obvious looking back. .as the freezes happened at the moment the graphics card was working the hardest.. (displaying old unit waypoints, city buildings, moving units, new desired unit position, etc etc). Never happened in vanilla, then again, vanilla never put the same strain on the graphics processor.     @seven: No problem. Actually I had the same problem in my hi-end laptop and the only problem was the ventilation. Once it was fixed with also special thermaltake glue in the processor all is 200% better.
    Also your post helped me to see some minor flaws that already existed so....thanks for your info.
