Need help!

I love total war games and always have but i'm just getting sick of something ALWAYS going wrong, i have the gold edition of Rome total war installed and want the third age mod (im a big lotr fan) but im finding it absolutely impossible, the guides are frankly rubbish and way too complicated and ive just ended up hitting numerous walls, I've installed the game as a rar. file extracted it, moved it into the RTW folder (i copied the data folder from the third age install and pasted it over the original data folder) i finally managed to start the game and gave out a massive cheer, only for it to never move it just stuck on the intro screen and has for about 9 attempts, im on a Macbook pro (very new EASILY powerful enough)

ive tried-
-deleting FMV and sound files incase of compatibility issues)
-swapping intro's with the original rome game
-re-installing the mod and game

HELP PLEASE!

Right first off are you actually running on mac os or windows if you are on mac my team have been our specially playable on the mac itself but it's up to you
