Advice Wanted
A few years ago I created my own little mod for Medieval 2 TW. It involved unpacking the game, copying a set of files into a mod diectory and then a whole bunch of text editing, mostly of unit stats and building recruitment slots.
I often made mistakes and typos which would cause the game to return an error message locating the problem in one of the text files.
I'm presently contemplating working on a Shogun 2 mod along the same lines. What would be the least painful way of editing unit stats and buildings? Does Shogun 2 report errors if it finds bad entries?

Re: Advice Wanted
No. You will simply have the game crash on you.
Forget everything to do with Modding M2TW. Modding the Warscape engine, ETW, NTW, TWS2, is nothing like M2TW in any way shape or form.

Re: Advice Wanted
Im in the same boat as Wodeson and made my own mod in the past with M2 and have been reading the S2 tutorials and understand them, but I do not know how to start my own mod folder for S2 or find the file that I need to unpack(if that what you need to do to mod the files that are listed in these S2 tutorial) to start modding. If anyone can guide me to the right thread on where to or how to begin for S2 I would appreciate that.
