Default Is Using Fire Rockets Honorable or Shameful Display

Please note this is for Fire Rockets only!

I was thinking of fielding Fire Rockets as my only missle unit and did not know what the community thought about them specifically. Yes, there range is better than archers, but its not like I am using it across the map.

    What do you guys think?

My opinion after ~300 games: they are nearly useless unless used very carefully, which in turn makes them too high maintenance for their high cost.

I've had my general insta-killed by them a few times, immediately losing me the battle before it's even properly started. I wouldn't refuse to play someone who brings them. (which happened to me a couple of times on the few battles I tried them out) but I wouldn't say I'm a fan of going against them.

I don't know if I can vote either way because on one side yes when you are fighting against someone using them the sole purpose of the weapon is to target your general which is very harassing and kinda cheap, but on the other hand they are an available unit with a steep price tag and are quite vulnerable if left alone.

All in all I would vote shameful display for the fact that weapons like that promote severe camping. Now there's nothing wrong with holding one's hard earned ground, but I mean the B S type of camping. That was one of the reasons that multiplayer in Empire and Napoleon was an absolute waste of time when you combine the human lame factor into doing things like bunkering down in the corner of the map on a hill so that there are no flanks possble with a huge mortar battery. While the case of that is much less evident in Shogun 2 I vote against anything that leads to such exploited fights as a default.

Oh I'm not assuming, it just so happens to be the only way I've experienced them.

there should be an in between option on the vote, personally i think they serve their purpose as the most expensive cav counter (other than your own cav) and can be used aggresively to force the opponet to back up or rush you. They also allow you to field no-cav armies if you combine them with a healthy amount of matchlocks, so they can diversify armies on lower funds. so if you can edit in a 3rd option, something like depends on person using them?

Not allowed to vote, but I'm cool with people using them. Their mobility and relatively short range for arty doesn't promote camping like fixed artillery does. I didn't find them to be overpowered or even cost-effective, though. Never had much of a problem facing them (didn't happen very often though, about 5 times out of circa 100 battles) and personally i only used them twice, once in a land-battle and once in a siege. The results were underwhelming.

Rockets are a rather silly unit and it's kind of cheesy to use them to snipe an enemy general.

Mind you, it's only a problem because of the stupidly excessive importance of generals in S2 which has introduced all kinds of unrealistic tactics involving killing generals.

When they're used as general snipers, I hate them.

They seem pretty mean at first, but as you level up, you develop strats to counter them.

Fire Rockets are for people who lack skill when dealing with enemy cavalry units. There is enough units in this game that can kill cavalry easily. Having a unit that shots predator missiles is just cheese.

Then answer this then, why do you want to use them if not to kill Cavalry? Using them to target infantry units is a waste.

I would kill his range units since they have the lowest armour and morale and I have no range units myself except the Fire Rockets.

Using them to shot at ANY infantry units, which also includes range ones is a waste. Fire rockets don't have enough ammo to do that kind of skirmishing.

You "might" scare off ashigaru type units (only to come back and regroup), but anything else won't run. Fire rockets don't do enough damage to infantry units. Even more so if they are in loose formation.

Bow Cavalry are the only range unit that fire rockets can kill effectively.
