Absolutely disgusting. Is this the sort of things that have been plaguing Muslim Americans since the death of Bin Ladin? This teacher needs to be banned from any public service position for life.

A Texas high school teacher has been placed on administrative leave following an incident where he allegedly told a 9th grade Muslim girl in his algebra class "I bet that you're grieving" on Monday following the death of Osama bin Laden.

According to one parent at Clear Brook High School in Houston who spoke about the incident to a local ABC affiliate, the teacher also said, "I heard about your uncle's death."

The parent said the student "understood that he was referring about Osama bin Laden being killed and was racially profiling her."

The name of the alleged victim of the comment has not been released. She is being described as an "American-born girl of Muslim faith."

The teacher allegedly showed no remorse after Muslim girl reacted to his comments, according to the parent (who requested anonymity from the ABC station because "she doesn't want any retaliation against her daughter or the girl who experienced the inappropriate comment.")

"The student ended up crying over what was said to her by the teacher and the teacher asked her why she was crying and another student said it was because of what you said earlier," the parent told the station. "And his response was, oh, OK, and just kind of smirked and giggled and walked away."

The Houston Chronicle reports the unidentified teacher "has been placed on administrative leave" following the alleged remark. The school district said in a statement that "the student did the right thing and immediately notified an adult regarding the teachers' comments."

The Chronicle published this official response from the school district:

In the Clear Creek Independent School District, we believe diversity strengthens our community and seek opportunities to celebrate the different cultures within our schools and neighborhoods. The sentiments allegedly shared by this teacher are not reflective of the staff at Clear Brook High School or anyone within the Clear Creek Independent School District.

In accordance with CCISD policy, the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a personnel investigation. The student did the right thing and immediately notified an adult regarding the teachers' comments. The principal at Clear Brook High School notified the child's parents and has been in communication with the family.

Seriously? Thats not a joke... A teacher is in a different position then a friend. A Friend can joke like that with his muslim friend. Hell I joke with my black and mexican friends all the time. We usually remind our mexican friend that his family crossed the border. But a Teacher can not joke with a student and claim they are grieving with the death of one muslim radical.

And of course this is Texas. They dont have unions so this should be easy to fire her.

None of it is a joke or funny especially when other students hear it and decide to go along with it and probably harass the girl through school. Things can go very badly considering how generally stupid kids can be over these sort of things.

Jokes are where two people laugh and brush it off. I was alright with my best friend saying it, as I KNOW definitely that he would never hurt me on purpose (as gay as it sounds so no homo). My best friend and I make racist jokes (him about me being muslim, so he generalizes me as Arab, and I make jokes about him being mexican) occasionally, so we can both laugh and brush it off. But I can't stand when people I only talk to once in a 2 weeks or so for 1 seconds to say that out of no where. That's when I question their stupidity and intellect, since they're trying to grab the whole classes attention by acting like a . It's mostly the guys however, only 1 girl out of like the whole school has only made that joke.

Sure, I will get over it, but be in my shoes. See how much people you would like to beat senseless. However, mature as I am, I just put up a fake smile and ignore. But if I was as immature as those making those jokes, I would have caused ruckess, which I generally never do.
