Thread: Sufi, Qawwali music

    Default Sufi, Qawwali music

I recently discovered that the little bits and pieces of sounds from the Asian subcontinent which have always captured my attention were Oawwali and then I learn of a man's voice I had heard long in the past, but never knew of. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and I'm on the path to becoming a huge fan of his music.

I cannot put into words his songs are so easy to follow yet highly complex in his own delivery. I'll find myself just nodding my head to the tune and after a while he'll 'wyle-out' and I will be like what the hell did he just do!? It's a shame he's no longer with us he died in 1997, but his nephew Rahat carries on the tradition.

This song is about everything 'God is' or
    "Allah Hu"

He get's revved up in this one

Yes I've listened to some other Qawwalers on youtube and haven't been impressed except for Rahat

And that song you posted is a good one!

It amazes me how you can have so much tradition yet be very progressive, simplicity yet sophistication.

Arieb Azhar performing poetry by Hazarat Khawaja Ghulam Farid (with english subtitles). Not sure if this amounts to qawalli but its definitely sufi. Its about how there is no word or words to describe the beauty and greatness of god.

PS: How do i post a youtube video? like not a link but an actual video?

I should retitle this thread Sufi, but to post a video just copy the part of the url after the equals sign and then click the youtube tag and paste it in.
