Default Going to upgrade PC for Battlefield3

    Hello.

BF3 is going , from what i've heard, to be really inferior on the consoles so i'm buying the PC version when it comes out, but in the Battlefield 3 thread Bolkosnky told me that he thinks my computer won't be able to run it even on High settings.

    It's pretty old:

    4GB RAM
    Intel Core duo 2.93Ghz
    Nvidia GeForce GT 9800 512mb
    Windowns 7 64 bit pro

So, can you guys recommend some good stuff to upgrade my computer? I wanna run BF3 at least on High.

    EDIT:

I have and i'm not planning to change:

    HDD

    ODD
    PSU
    CASE

    I'm planning to change:

    GPU

    motherboard
    RAM
    Processor.

I've planned to buy these so far:

    CPU: I5-2500K 3.3 ghz : https://www.kabum.com.br/cgi-local/k...1:01:02:05:114

    GPU: Radeon 6970 2GB https://www.balaodainformatica.com.b...?prod_id=26445

    RAM:

    https://www.kabum.com.br/cgi-local/k...:01:12:120:111

    Motherboard:

    https://www.kabum.com.br/cgi-local/k...1:01:07:11:385

    Monitor ( for 1920x1080 resolution )

What you've posted looks like it won't even run the game on low settings to be honest.

A quick search shows that BF3 will use the Frostbite 2.0 engine which won't support DirectX 9.0c. That means you'll have to have at least Vista and ideally Win7 to play the game. That video card won't fly either as it's not DX10+ compatible. Those are two things you'll have to think about. Do you have at least Vista on that machine? If not you're going to need to buy a new Windows license.

As for the CPU - I'd think off the top of my head that a dual core would still play the game. It just wouldn't be as fast.

Look to get a decent GPU compatible with DX11 for full effect. That and Win7 may be all you need. Good luck.

I don't know how well that processor will hold, but I definitely know it won't hold. I doubt it even holds with Bad Company 2. A GTX 460/Radeon 6850 might be a good starting point as far as getting a new GPU goes. (I'm still debating with myself as to which card is better.)

If you're a student, you may be able to get Win 7 cheaper. I've never been through the process so I can't say it for a fact.

Battlefield 3 as seen in the demos and promo videos is being run on a GTX 580 to give you an idea of what it needs GPU wise

cpu wont hold at all not for Bad COmpany 2 and certainly not for BF3

Note the Link and image below a Phenom II dual core unlocked to a quadcore, going from 2 cores to 4 doubled the frame rate In that short user review the guy is using a 4870x2 which is roughly ati 5870 / 6870 performance now if a dual core at 3.8ghz cant get 40fps with a 5870 BF3 isnt gonna run much better, simply put

your going to need a Quadcore cpu, current Intel Sandybridge 2500k is the best bang for buck, with a P67 motherboard and 4gb 2x2gb ddr3 1600mhz 1.5v ram, id suggest a 560Ti or 6950 1gb or 2gb preferably 2gb as its only a $20 difference, for the best gaming possible at 1920x1200 or 1920x1080. And i make the recommendation on the GPU because we dont know exactly what the strain of DX11 will be on Battlefield 3, in Bad Company 2 they only used DX11 for soft shadows and that actually improved performance over DX10 and offered better image quality, That said BF3 will most likely use Tessellation, Soft Shadows and be multithreaded very well considering Frostbite 2.0 is an upgrade of Bad Company 2's Frostbite 1.5,

    I have Win7.

Damn... gonna have to make lots of upgrades. NOT going to be cheap

Can't i be ready for BF3 only upgrading CPU , GPU and RAM?

Well i already have Windowns 7 64 bit pro. Can you recommend me a good GPU?

And anyone knows if those stuff people say about paraguayan products is true? If it is...i'm not going to buy anything from there. Well i heard a cousin of my friend will maybe travel to Miami. I could send him the money...who knows.

A GTX 460/Radeon 6850 might be a good starting point as far as getting a new GPU goes

Good a lot of dumb ass people just go and spend amounts on crap you however if your being truthful could wait it out hell im sure BF3 will run ok on your rig not high settings but at least your running it better than consoles and with options to go DX10 not 11 as for your card only supports 10 .

One good thing is to save your money buy part with part etc so in 2 months time buy some ram and a decent motherboard this is the best logical way to go about building a killer rig it takes time just like me been waiting for over 8 months to buy this laptop .

Thanks for that im hoping with the 3 year warranty i never have to worry about any issues .

Join the club mate we are all in money debt problems cant afford jack im lucky and i admit it i have my own business now so my income is strictly tight etc and i dont get paid fir 2 months as turn over values must be met this means i lose money if my company lose sales.

Happy gaming pal also if you want put a pc gamer in your tag and join the crew .

A pity i don't understand much about this. But i'll try to get a better GPU/CPU/RAM as soon as i can. ( Ugh, my poor wallet >.>)

Just for you to have an idea on the prices here, i made a computer on dell... just to see how much it would cost.

    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz (2x2GB

    Intel® Core™ i7-2600 (8MB Cache) Overclocked Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX460 1GB GDDR5
Alienware de 21.5 inches Full HD OPTX™ - Widescreen
    1TB (1024GB) 7200 RPM 3.0Gb/s - 32MB cache

    And the final price... 8.8K

8.8K in Brazilian currency? Christ that's still like $5,500 USD. You would get an absolute monster here for $5K, even if you did the wrong thing and bought it pre-made from a manufacturer. I don't know if you could even customize it up that high as you'd max everything out at like 3 or 4K maybe..

But his main problem is tax and shipping its very high for him which is not fair IMO however the only way he could get things cheaper would be to buy from straight from the USA.

Ebay is one alternative if you dont mind second hand auctions you could look there .

i feel like you guys are grossly underestimating his rig, especially when referring to Bad Company 2.

i was running Bad Company 2 on medium settings with the following:

2gb of DDR 2 RAM on Windows 7
    Geforce 8800 GTS
    Core 2 Duo 3.4 ghz

obviously i could not max it out, and i like to kept my FPS at the very least above 30, but usually in the 40-55 range, so i lowered somethings.

i'm not exactly sure what will happen to DX9 cards when you run BF3, im going to assume it just wont start, so if you get a DX10.1 compliant card, you should be able to run BF3 on low settings without upgrading your RAM or processor.

    this is my guess.
