President Obama was talking about how Pakistan was a great ally, and to take advantage of them usefully, while also defeating Al-Qaeda. 3 years later, Obama kept his word on greatly weakening Al-Qaeda.
No candidate, rep or dem, had the aim to attack pakistan. The point the republicans were making were to increase the number of raids and missiles in pakistan, which did increase under Obama (though not as a result of his personal opinion on the war, rather its mere escalation).

To be frank though, the electoral defeat of Musharriff before Obama took office took the hardest decision (cutting off US aid) off the table, as the political leadership at least was a reliable ally against terrorist groups even if the military/security leadership remained iffy. Just attacking Al Qaida members in Pakistan never was a contentious issue.
