How would I add new characters?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but I am using Extended Realism so I thought maybe I should post it here.

I've been trying to add new characters to the campaign map. More specifically, I wanted to change the name of the general Aratus of Sicyon in Athens, as well as his age, traits, and ancillaries. However, I have now tried editing the descr_names.txt, descr_names_lookup.txt, names.txt, and descr_strat.txt files, with no luck. Whenever I try to play as the Greek Cities, the game CTD.

Anyone know how I could edit this general?
