if your thinking of using the byzantine flag from the broken crescent mod you shouldnt cause its historiclly inaccurate you should look at the flag of the justinian dynasty which looks just like the eastern roman empire flag from rome total war barbarian invasion except that the icon in the middle is black and that the background of the flag is white.

Who told you that we want take anything from broken crescent? We never had the intention to do so.
...
Can you give a prober source for a roman standard-flag from the justinian age? A contemporary description or a picture (wall painting, mosaic or others). I think it is quite intersting for many readers to see how such a flag would look like.
