LotR Music Submod

[Gallus]

As I stated previously on "content of 3.0" thread, I'm making a submod with LotR music. I own LotR OST and CR so there is no copyright issue. Or is there? I'm no expert when it comes to law so let me know if I'm doing anything illegal. This will be the first time I'm going to try modding so please be patient. Here are the tracks I'm planning to include, suggestions and advices are welcome!

considering the copyright issue; well in today's world almost everything is copyrighted, only small ammount of things are free for use...even toothpivks are copyrighted so there is no way that software isn't. so what i'm trying to say is that when modding you are bound to brake few laws allong the path, no matter how hard you try to follow all the rules...

you might want to check my signature to see if you like any of the 122 tracks i have found, i would update but not a lot of people seem interested.

Edit: if you are ONLY looking for lord of the rings music you might want to check out Battle for Middle Earth soundtracks, there are 3 versions of this game and so there should a hefty amount of good campaign or battle music you can use.

and about the copy rights
as long as it is for your personal use and you are not getting profit from it, i think it should be fine. if there is a problem they can just ask you to remove those tracks. end of story

OK I encountered my first problem - I can't find a "music" folder in Third age/data/sounds

do I make my own or am I missing something?

your music folder is the Music.dat file, you must use a sound extractor to convert that .dat file to a regular folder.
read Step One again on the instructions. there is a link there that should direct you to the extractor

it should not be difficult, lots of people change music with no problems. we must be doing something wrong or forgetting to do it. give it sometime and maybe we will get an answer.

I changed the music back, but I saved my failed attempt so I might try again if I get a sudden revelation.

edit: deleting events.dat and event.idx is the problem, but if you don't delete those it won't work so we are kinda screwed. BUT I think I found a way to make Rohan and Eriador separated.

edit2: I MADE FACTION SPECIFIC MUSIC!!!!! ROHAN THEME FTW!!
now I need to know on which factions from vanilla are Isengard and Mordor based on. this can be released by the end of the week if anyone is interested.

No, I don't have enough experience in modding. Right now I'm preparing tracks in Audiacity.

Nice thinking Gallus, I'd love to hear some real LOTR music during my campaign. I can't help you with modding though, I'm as inexperienced as you are. And don't worry about copyright. They sue someone if he makes profit from selling their products, and you don't get profit (except from +rep of course - oh man you will get tons of it!). I never liked those copyright laws anyways. Hell even my signature picture is probably copyrighted. PLEASE SUE ME!

well i kind of got to go but il be back again tonight and try to give some good pieces but first i need to know a few things.
1) do you want vocal music too? like a chorus or a woman singing(for elves)? elf:example1, example2. Human: example1, example 2
2) or are you just looking for instrumentals? evil: example1, example 2
3) are you just looking for lord of the rings music? or close to it? if so how do you like these? example1, example2

Toho I think I know how to solve the bug! I'll try it tomorrow and tell you if it works.

edit: I have good news and bad news: the good news is, I know what's causing the bug. The bad news is, it's the extractor. It does not extract voices.

edit2: now I suddenly lost music for Dale even though I didn't touch it. wtf? this thing is buggy as hell.

I edited the extractor so it extracts voices but they are still not working,... I NEED HELP WITH THIS THING.

well i did what you said but sadly nothing changed...what folders do you delete before repacking?
